Trying to Teach Kids Life Lessons? On Netflix Canada, There’s an “Ep” for That! #StreamTeam

May 16, 2016 by Kathryn Leave a Comment

With both my boys in grade school, I’m always amazed to see how much they’re learning every day. Benjamin has almost mastered reading and has a great grasp of basic math concepts, while Zackary has started learning multiplication, division and paragraph structure. Yet some of the most important skills and lessons my boys have to learn are ones that are never taught in a classroom. From the importance of being honest to dealing with peer pressure, finding ways to explain and develop my boys’ life skills is no easy task!

Luckily, with Netflix, there’s an “ep” for that! Some of the most popular children’s programs on Netflix Canada are also ones that can help kids learn valuable life lessons. Wondering what episodes are best suited to your child’s needs? Here’s some suggestions to help you get started!

Make Time for Sibling Bonding with New Playlists from Netflix #StreamTeam

April 13, 2016 by Kathryn 16 Comments

My two boys may be brothers, but that doesn’t mean they always get along! One minute, the two of them are playing together with big smiles and the next they’re snapping at each other angrily because one did something the other didn’t like. It’s enough to make a mom go crazy! Luckily, there are a few things my boys always agree on…like watching some of their favourite shows on Netflix, for example!

When it comes to ending sibling rivalry, Netflix knows what it’s doing! The next time your little ones start griping at one another, check out the fun and unifying Siblings Playlists to find shows that the entire family can enjoy. From comedy to adventure to education, Netflix knows that siblings can always find some common ground!

Teach Kids Differences Can Create the Best Friendships with #DinoTrux #StreamTeam

August 18, 2015 by Kathryn 15 Comments

One of the things that has always fascinated me about my oldest son is the way that he tends to find the kids in his class most in need of friendship and immediately form a bond with them. Zackary is very outgoing, so he’s never had much trouble making friends. But his very best friends are always the kids that aren’t as socially adept. From a child held back a year because of delayed speech development to a young boy in foster care that only attended Zackary’s school for half a year, watching my outgoing boy draw his peers out of their shells both impresses and intrigues me.

It’s just one example of a fact I’ve found to be true many times in life…opposites attract. And, more than that, opposites often compliment one another, especially among friends. The differences between us let us both learn from and be inspired by our peers so that all can grow as individuals. And that’s a lesson that the brand new Netflix original children’s series, DinoTrux, wants to illustrate to children. [Read more…]

Summer is Full of Adventures with Dragons: Race to the Edge on Netflix #StreamTeam

July 20, 2015 by Kathryn 30 Comments

My boys have a fascination with heroes, which is part of the reason they both loved the How To Train Your Dragon movies. Hiccup’s transformation from a misfit to a hero always left Zackary and Benjamin excited, and of course dragons make the movie even more entertaining.

But now, my boys get to enjoy the adventures of Hiccup and his friends in a whole new way with the release of the Netflix original series Dragons: Race to the Edge! After the arrival of a fun box featuring snacks and some merchandise from the show, all three of us were ready to check out the new series. And we weren’t disappointed! [Read more…]

Take Control of Your Child’s Screen Time with Kidoodle.TV-Giveaway #KidoodleMom

April 4, 2014 by Kathryn 24 Comments

Television is really not something that I enjoy so about a year ago, I disconnected the satellite in my house. I’d started to feel as if I was paying money every month for the two children’s channels that my boys watched. With plenty of DVDs, I didn’t see any need to have anything else. It worked fairly well at first, but I noticed two distinct problems after a while. The first was that my boys craved variety, even with the large number of DVDs at their disposal they often asked about shows they had loved prior to my disconnecting the satellite. The second was that, when left to their own devices, they’d often sit in front of the television for hours watching the same shows over and over. Needless, to say, I didn’t approve of that at all! But at the same time, I had trouble monitoring the time they spent in front of the television.

Kidoodle.TV sounded like the perfect solution for me, and recently I got a chance to test out the service for myself. This online streaming network features a variety of popular children’s shows so that kids can find all kinds of fun new content to enjoy. But what really sets this service apart from the competition is the high level of parental control. Not only can I customize the programs that are displayed to my boys, I can set a time limit so that they can only watch until the timer runs out. [Read more…]
