Give Your Child an Epic Android Tablet Experience with the Kid-Safe #LeapFrogEpic

October 23, 2015 by Kathryn 13 Comments

I’ve shared many times before how much I love LeapFrog and its innovative, educational toys and games for children. We have a house full of LeapFrog toys including the brand new LeapPad Platinum tablet and my boys play with them all. But when I received the LeapFrog Epic to review, I wasn’t sure what benefits it would have that our current LeapPads didn’t already provide.

Of course, I should have known that LeapFrog had innovations planned that I hadn’t even realized I wanted. And that’s exactly what the LeapFrog Epic is…an innovation! Rather than a tablet-style gaming system running software specifically designed for the device, the LeapFrog Epic is a genuine tablet for children, complete with the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system! Ever After High’s 5 Tips to Help Teach Children About Second Chances-Giveaway #PlayAdvocate

October 15, 2015 by Kathryn 74 Comments

When my oldest son was in Grade One, there was a little boy named Timmy that was a bit of a bully to him. Timmy had been going to classes with Zackary since they were both in preschool, and I’d seen the boy’s rude behaviour for myself when helping out in the class. It was hard knowing what advice to give my son about Timmy, but I did tell him that Timmy likely just hadn’t learned proper manners yet, and that Zackary should pity him rather than be angry with him.

As it happened, Timmy did just need some experience in social situations. As the youngest in his family, he had clearly been spoiled. But a few years of following rules and learning about fairness at school made a world of difference. Now, Timmy is a pleasant and popular boy that gets along with everyone at school and is one of Zackary’s good friends. Thank goodness everyone was willing to give him a second chance! If your child is dealing with a difficult friend or classmate, Ever After High has five tips to help you teach your child about the importance of second chances.

There will be times as a parent where the right thing to do is offer your little one a second chance. Forgetting to take out the trash, complete a small homework assignment or return home in time for dinner are all small mistakes a child will make. Instead of serving a punishment right away, try offering a second chance. This way your little one can see firsthand the benefits of being given a second chance and what it’s an important thing to do with others. [Read more…]

LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum, Imagicards and Word Whammer Build Literacy for Life

September 28, 2015 by Kathryn 25 Comments

I remember when my oldest son was about six months old and it occurred to me that he didn’t really have any baby toys. He had stuffed animals and a few rattles, but nothing interactive with buttons and music. I made a trip to the local store and found a toy that I could hang on the crib with handy rubber straps. Featuring a butterfly, caterpillar and ladybug, it had music, sound effects and talking characters. Zackary absolutely loved it.

That toy was a LeapFrog toy and though I didn’t know it at the time, that was when we took the first step to becoming a LeapFrog family. In the years that followed, my boys have learned and played with countless LeapFrog infant and toddler toys, the Leapster Explorer, the Tag Reading System and every single LeapPad tablet.

Needless to say, I was thrilled when I was chosen as a member of the LeapFrog Mom Squad, since it would mean even more chances to experience the toys my boys have loved since they were babies. And sure enough, my very first LeapFrog package was one that had my youngest son Benjamin in paradise! Even better, these newest toys from LeapFrog are the perfect choice for building literacy skills, something my Grade 1 boy is going to be doing a lot of this year! [Read more…]

Fisher-Price Smart Stages Toys Grow Along with Your Child-Giveaway

November 18, 2014 by Kathryn 173 Comments

Shopping for gifts for infants can be tricky because they grown and change so fast. When I pick out a toy, I want it to be fun for a little one right away, but I also want it to be useful for more than just a few months. Fisher-Price has always done a great job of putting lasting appeal into its toys and now with the new Smart Stages series, the company has gone a step further with toys designed to grow with your child!

I recently received the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Vacuum so that I could see for myself what these toys were like. Suitable for children from 12-36 months, there is plenty to keep kids entertained with this toy. I loved that it featured over thirty different songs, tunes and phrases so that there would be plenty of variety to help keep little ones interested.
