Give Kids #5MoreMinutes Before Bed with Netflix Dinotrux 5 Minute Favorites

November 10, 2015 by Kathryn 58 Comments

If there’s one thing that I’m obsessive about, it’s keeping my boys on a bedtime routine. First they have a bedtime snack, then brush their teeth. I read them a book, put on some relaxing music and tuck them into their beds. The routine almost never changes and as a result, I generally don’t have to deal with too many bedtime battles.

But there are those odd times, especially during school breaks, when my boys will beg to stay up “just a little longer!” Usually, it’s when they’re watching one of their favourite Netflix shows on television and I have to admit that I usually cave when they ask if they can finish the episode before bed. There are all kinds of techniques kids use to get that extra bit of time, and Netflix Canada knows them all!

Cool Off with this Easy Minute Maid Sparkling Peach Punch Recipe

June 22, 2013 by Kathryn 12 Comments

There’s nothing better than sipping a cold, refreshing beverage on a hot summer’s day and once again, Minute Maid has teamed up with the Canadian Living Test Kitchen to create an amazing assortment of cool concoctions to quench your thirst!

I always love trying the newest recipes from Minute Maid and so when I was given the chance to whip up one of these tasty drinks and see what I thought, I couldn’t resist. I was tempted to try making a nice summer Sangria, but my boys love fruity summer drinks as much as I do, so I eventually decided to make the non-alcoholic Sparkling Peach Punch recipe.

Take the Hassle Out of Breakfast with Berry Rolled Oat Rounds and Other Recipes from Minute Maid

March 5, 2013 by Kathryn 17 Comments

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it does bring challenges, especially on a busy weekday morning! Recently Minute Maid conducted a national poll to see just how Canadians approach that all-important morning meal:

  • Solo eaters: Eight in ten Canadian families don’t sit down for breakfast together
  • Do as I say, not as I do: While most Canadian parents would feel worried (41%), guilty (27%) or disappointed (31%) if their children went a day without breakfast, 14% of parents still skip breakfast themselves
  • Timing the challenge: Two in five Canadian parents say their biggest breakfast challenge is lack of time to prepare; a third say it’s a lack of time to eat in the morning at all.

In my own province, a lack of time to prepare breakfast was found to be the biggest morning challenge and I can certainly relate to that! Between packing lunches, getting my boys dressed for school and bundling us all up to face the cold winter weather, there’s not a whole lot of time left to cook a hearty breakfast! Fortunately, Minute Maid has partnered with the Canadian Living Test Kitchen to create some recipes that are both hearty and convenient. I decided to try the Berry Rolled Oat Rounds since both my boys are big fans of oatmeal. [Read more…]

A few weeks ago, I shared the news about Minute Maid’s latest commitment to Breakfast Clubs of Canada. The company has supported this worthy organization for years and once again has helped to ensure that children across the country start the day with their stomachs full and their minds ready for learning.

Breakfast Clubs of Canada Will Help More Than 100,000 Children This Year Thanks to Minute Maid #MinuteMaidBCC

September 18, 2012 by Kathryn 9 Comments

minute-maid-orange-juiceI think almost all us busy parents occasionally struggle with getting our children to eat breakfast before the family rushes out the door in the morning. It can be frustrating at times, but it’s nothing compared to the anguish of Canadian parents that are forced to send their children off to school with nothing to eat at all.

Approximately one in every ten Canadian children is at risk of starting their day on an empty stomach and in such a wealthy country, that’s a statistic that simply shouldn’t exist. That’s why I was so excited to hear that this fall, Minute Maid has once again partnered with Breakfast Clubs of Canada and Club des petits déjeuners du Québec to help ensure that every child starts the day with a full stomach and the energy to get through the day. In fact, the company has pledged a commitment of $1.5 million dollars’ worth of 100% juice over the next three years. [Read more…]
