Keep Toddlers Hydrated with Playtex PlayTime Cups Featuring Favourite Kids’ Characters-Giveaway

April 16, 2015 by Kathryn 73 Comments

As my boys grew from infants to toddlers to active school-aged boys, there were many products that made caring for them easier. But one of my absolute must-have brands in the house has always been Playtex. The Playtex Mealtime bowls, plates and cutlery prevented so many messes in the house thanks to the sturdy design and no-slip bases. And the Playtex AnyTime cups helped teach my boys to drink from a cup without my having to worry about spilled milk and juice!

Now Playtex has made a great product even better with the introduction of the new Playtex PlayTime cups for children aged twelve months and older featuring popular licensed characters! Your child can choose from Batman & Robin, My Little Pony, Thomas the Tank Engine or, exclusive to Walmart Canada, Superman! I received the Batman & Robin PlayTime Insulated Spill-Proof Straw Cup to test out and my boys were both arguing over who got the cup as soon as I pulled it out.

Eliminate Snack Spills with Playtex Twist ‘N Click Snacker Cups #MomTrust

August 3, 2014 by Kathryn 36 Comments

What makes Playtex Infant such a fabulous company in my mind is its constant innovation. And while there are a few products that showcase that characteristic, my personal favourite is the Twist ‘N Click line of bowls and snack cups. There is nothing worse than having food or snacks spill or leak out of their containers and so when Playtex made it a goal to solve the problem, I knew I had to check it out.

What really appeals to me about this line is that it’s perfect for travelling and my favourite travel accessory is the Twist ‘N Click Snacker Cup. My boys are fairly good about eating in the car, but every once in a while something goes wrong and I end up having to clean up a huge mess. In fact, on our last road trip my youngest son managed to spill chocolate milk all over himself and the seat not just once, but twice!

Top Three Ways to Spend Time Outside with Your Baby this Summer #MomTrust

May 27, 2014 by Kathryn 31 Comments

Maybe it’s because I live in a province that’s known for harsh winter weather, but as far as I’m concerned, there is nothing more wonderful than being outside once warm weather has arrived in Saskatchewan. In fact, for the last two weekends I’ve been in the back yard relaxing in a lawn chair reading almost from dawn until dusk!

While my boys are usually outside with me as well, they spend those sunshine-filled hours playing on the swing set, jumping on the trampoline or running through the sprinkler. But even when they were younger, I found plenty of ways to have fun outside with them. This month, the Playtex Mom Trust asked me to share a few of my favourite outdoor activities with infants and toddlers. If you have a baby in the house, these are my top three ways to have fun outside with your baby this summer!

Get Walking

Not only is walking great exercise, it’s a chance for your little one to see more of the world around him. Even a simple walk around the block exposes a baby to new sights, sounds and smells that help expand his knowledge of the world. I used to make a daily trip to the post office each day pushing my baby in the stroller, with occasional longer walks to run errands or visit the park. He loved relaxing in his seat in the shade as we walked! [Read more…]

It’s amazing to me how even very small babies can be so unique and how quickly they make their individual personalities known. My oldest son was a cheery baby that loved being out and about with me seeing the world, while my youngest was fussier, clingier and happiest when he was in my arms and I was holding him close. Even the way they ate was different; Zackary was waking up once a night to eat by the time he was a year old, while Benjamin at the same age was waking up five times a night!

Playtex Infant understands how different babies can be and that’s why the company puts so much effort into designing products that will work for your unique baby. The company’s latest innovation, the Playtex Nipple Variety Pack, is one of the most ingenious concepts I’ve ever seen and I so very much wish it had been around when my boys were younger. Containing four distinctly different nipples, it lets parents skip the trial-and-error process and find the right nipple for your individual baby. I have a feeling that my almost exclusively breastfed boys would have loved the NaturaLatch nipple! [Read more…]

Challenges and Solutions Using Bottles After Long-Term Breastfeeding #MomTrust

April 2, 2014 by Kathryn 2 Comments

When I gave birth to my oldest son, I was determined to breastfeed right from the beginning. My mom had breastfed all five of her children, sometimes for quite extended periods, and I didn’t even really consider not doing the same. I think I assumed it would be easy because it always looked so easy for her, so when I started breastfeeding and my nipples ended up cracked and bleeding, I was upset and confused. About two days after returning home from the hospital, I even considered giving up altogether. But I didn’t. I stuck it out and within about a month, breastfeeding was as natural as breathing to me.

Even so, a time came when my boys used bottles as well. At about one year of age, I would give my children whole milk in a bottle during the day or with meals as I gradually reduced their number of feedings. And I learned very quickly that finding the right bottle was HARD! Most of the bottles I owned had been designed for much younger babies, though I didn’t realize that at the time, and that meant that my boys simply weren’t getting milk quickly or easily enough. They had a tendency to chew on the nipples of the bottles to make the milk flow faster, which of course completely destroyed the nipples fairly quickly. [Read more…]
