4 Ways to Make Busy School Mornings Easier on the Whole Family

October 26, 2016 by Kathryn 32 Comments

There’s so much that can sidetrack a family on a busy morning. From picky kids to forgotten homework to unpacked lunches, getting kids fed, clothed and out the door on their way to school can feel downright impossible sometimes. Luckily, I’ve done quite well at setting a morning routine this year and for the most part, even a busy morning goes quite smoothly. But some days, it seems like the morning brings nothing but challenges. So, when Quaker Canada offered to send me a special package to help manage those busy mornings and share my experience, I was thrilled. Here’s what I learned after a week:

1) A Little Nighttime Preparation Makes Mornings Easier

My oldest son loves oatmeal for breakfast and usually there’s enough time to put the kettle on, boil water and make him a couple packages of his favourite Quaker Instant Oatmeal. But some mornings, even that few extra minutes of breakfast preparation can make the morning feel rushed. So, for the first time last week, I tried Overnight Oats. I’d heard a lot about the concept in the last few months. Just mix equal parts oats and liquid, and then add toppings, sweetener and flavouring as desired. I used milk as the liquid and added blueberries and maple syrup for flavour, then refrigerated the mixture overnight. The next morning, Zackary sat down to a delicious, creamy and hearty breakfast…no extra time required! [Read more…]

Nature’s Path Coconut Chia Tropical Smoothie Bowl Recipe

January 26, 2016 by Kathryn 219 Comments

While a new year starts out with great intentions for many people, it’s usually around the end of January that resolve starts to fade and we start to slip in our attempts to stick to our new goals.

Whether a bout of cold weather convinces you to skip that run, or an especially busy week has you reaching for the phone to order takeout instead of cooking at home, little stumbles don’t have to mean the end of good intentions! And this year, Nature’s Path wants to help keep you on the path to good health.

Going Back to School is Better with a Mexican Breakfast Pizza Recipe

August 6, 2015 by Kathryn 170 Comments

The school year is fast approaching and I’m already starting to plan out some easy and delicious meals for the busy school season. While I tend to stick to fairly basic sandwiches and snacks for the most part, I like having some fun and creative meal ideas at the ready as well.

And that’s especially true for breakfast! Even though my boys love their cereal, they also love heartier options in the morning and since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I want to make sure that they head out the door feeling satisfied.

This year, Ozery’s Pita Break is helping with that thanks to its extensive variety of delicious and healthy Morning Rounds and OneBun products. I recently received a variety of products to create a tasty back-to-school recipe, so I decided to combine a few kid-friendly favourites into one quick and easy breakfast idea: a Mexican Breakfast Pizza recipe! Mornings are Better with Folgers Gourmet Selections Mocha Swirl Coffee-Giveaway

December 19, 2013 by Kathryn 364 Comments

There is nothing that I love more than a cup of coffee in the morning, and since I got my Keurig machine last year I’ve been trying so many different varieties that I wasn’t aware of. A few months ago I discovered Folgers Gourmet Selections Vanilla Biscotti K-cups and with the first sip, I knew I had found my new favourite coffee. That is until I got the chance to try the new Folgers Gourmet Selections Mocha Swirl – I didn’t think any other flavour would compare, but boy was I wrong.

Folgers Gourmet Selections K-cups are available in a variety of tempting flavours including Vanilla Biscotti, Caramel Drizzle, Black Silk, Lively Colombian Regular or Decaf, Morning Café, Classic Roast and the new Mocha Swirl. I have to admit, Mocha Swirl wouldn’t have been a variety I necessarily would have chosen myself, but I was pleasantly surprised when I brewed up a cup! The chocolate flavour is rich but not overpowering and blends with the coffee so nicely. With a little cream and my favourite sweetener, it’s like dessert in the morning!

Power Up Your Kids and #FeedtheFun with New Bear Paws Morning Snack Blueberry and Vanilla Yogourt-Giveaway

April 4, 2013 by Kathryn 140 Comments

My boys are always on the go. I am amazed at how full of energy Zackary is at the end of a full day of school, something that used to tire me right out as a kid, and Benjamin seems to have the exact same temperament. All that running around means that I need to make sure they take a break for a healthy snack at some point. Zackary’s school requests that a morning snack be added to his lunch and Benjamin has a huge appetite in the morning that has me scrambling to fill him up.

When I got the chance to try the brand new yogourt varieties of Bear Paws Morning Snack cookies, I was thrilled. I want my boys to always enjoy healthy, well-balanced meals and snacks, so the Bear Paws Morning Snack Cereal & Blueberry Yogourt and Cereal & Vanilla Yogourt varieties, which contain 2g of fibre, 8g of whole grains and a source of calcium in every serving, seemed like the perfect choice for fuelling my little hurricanes.

My boys know that every package we receive usually has to be photographed before they can have it. This time they were so excited that they decided to arrange their package and photograph it themselves!

I received a very special Bear Paws Feed the Fun review package containing the two new yogourt-filled flavours of Bear Paws Morning Snack and an assortment of activities, toys and games perfect for my energetic boys. And since our school has a week-long break over Easter, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect! [Read more…]
