I’ve always loved watching the Olympic Games, but I have to admit that this year I’ve enjoyed it even more thanks to the amazing women competing! Seeing our female athletes take the stage and show the world what they can do has left no doubt in anyone’s mind…our women have moves like no other!

One of those medals came from two of the FAB IV divers, brand ambassadors for Gillette Venus and my personal favourite athletes of the games. I love watching them compete but even more than that, I love their energy and joie de vie both in and out of the pool! [Read more…]

As Canada Takes on the World at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, P&G Reminds Us To Say Thank You, Mom

August 8, 2016 by Kathryn 33 Comments

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games have kicked off with a bang and I have to admit that watching Penny Oleksiak win Canada’s first medals of the games (and its first medals in women’s swimming in the last twenty years!) has resulted in my being glued to the television as I go through my day. Whether I’m watching the highly acclaimed Canadian women’s gymnastics team to the men’s volleyball team winning a hard-fought victory over the United States, I can’t help but feel my heart swell up with pride for Canada as our athletes get a chance to show others what they can do.

Throughout those performances, P&G is there supporting our athletes and their families. An official sponsor of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the company has always been passionate about supporting athletes and also providing recognition for the sacrifices that parents make to help their children excel. And as in past years, the P&G video for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games exemplifies that. The video celebrates the idea that behind every amazing athlete is an amazing mom and I’ll admit that I can’t watch it without getting tears in my eyes!

My personal favourite competitors this year, the beautiful and talented FAB IV divers, are a great example of how a mother’s support is essential to success. Roseline Filion (27), Meaghan Benfeito (25), Jennifer Abel (23) and Pamela Ware (21) have won 86 medals between the four of them in a variety of international events and aren’t planning on slowing down any time soon. Ware has said that seeing her own mother get through tough times in younger years inspired her to be a stronger person. Now her mother is the first person she calls after competing, no matter what the results were. And Filion knows her mother’s sacrifices were essential to her success. She admits that without her mother’s support, she would have quit long ago.

While Abel and Ware narrowly missed the podium in the women’s 3-metre synchronized event (coming in fourth and less than one point away from a bronze medal), both women will also be competing in the individual 3-meter springboard event later in the week as well. And tomorrow Filion and Benfeito will have the chance to earn a medal in the women’s 10-metre synchronized diving event. I can’t wait to cheer them on and I have no doubt that their performance will be thrilling.

And throughout the games, the divers’ mothers will be cheering them on too, thanks in part to the sponsorship from P&G! Whether you’re a passionate Olympic fan or just a casual viewer of a few favourite events, make sure to watch this year’s P&G Rio 2016 Olympic video to help you get inspired for the coming days. Then tune in and check out Canada’s best athletes as they take on the world and go for gold this year in Rio!

Venus and the FAB IV Team Up to Show the World Moves Like No Other at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games-Giveaway

When I was a young adult, I was always excited to try the newest, trendiest beauty products whenever I could get my hands on them. I bought my first Venus razor days after it was first released in 2001 and it’s been a staple of my day-to-day beauty routine ever since. As I have a tendency to be clumsy, the no-nick design was a dream come true for me. And I’ve always loved how fresh, modern and energetic the brand was!

That’s why it’s no surprise to me that Venus Canada’s newest partnership is with women that embody that same fresh, modern and energetic spirit! The FAB IV, best friends and Rio 2016 Olympic divers, are the newest brand ambassadors for Venus, and I can’t imagine a more fitting partnership. These women are all incredible athletes but more than that, they have an inner confidence and joie de vive that’s just as inspiring.

In a little more than a year, Canada will be heading to Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics and that legendary Canadian pride is already soaring! As a proud member of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Tire has come up with some great ideas for ways that you can get your whole family involved in the countdown to the summer games. Try these four tips to help build your excitement and anticipation!

rio summer olympics

  • Pick one summer Olympic sport you have never tried before and play that sport with your kids. Here’s the full list of summer Olympic sports.
  • Pick a goal that you want to track, i.e., how many basketball free shots can you take, what is your best trampoline move, how fast can you run 50 metres, etc.
  • Work on a specific skill and try to see how with practice you can improve throughout the year. Before next year’s Olympics, get your family to try again to see if they can beat their personal best.
  • Do you know any Canadian athletes who are on the #RoadtoRio for the first time? Find out who they are and what they are planning for 2016.

Support Team Canada at the 2012 Olympics by Joining the Pampers #OCanadaBaby Anthem

April 11, 2012 by Kathryn 4 Comments

The 2012 Olympic Games in London is quickly approaching and to help cheer on Team Canada, Pampers has teamed up with Olympic Bronze Medalist and new mom Priscilla Lopes-Schliep to create the very first version of the Canadian national anthem performed entirely by babies, O Canada, Baby! My youngest son Benjamin contributed a few clips and I was so excited to see that he had been featured right at the beginning, singing his heart out in his cute Team Canada gear! Check out the video; it’s pretty adorable.

If you want your baby to be included in this special video project, it’s easy to be a part of the fun! Just take some video clips of your baby singing, laughing, crying or even just making funny noises, and then upload your video to www.facebook.com/PampersCanada. The clips will all be compiled into a one-of-a-kind montage of babies “singing” the national anthem! Check out the Pampers Canada Facebook page to get all the details. And don’t forget to follow the #OCanadaBaby hashtag on Twitter too for all the latest updates on the project!

Clips of the anthem will be featured on the Facebook page and at special events across Canada on July 1, 2012. The final O Canada, Baby! anthem will be released during the Olympic games to cheer on Team Canada. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to let your little star show their support for Canadian athletes at the 2012 Olympics in London. Don’t miss out!
