Say Goodbye to Litter Box Sadness with the PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box System-Giveaway

February 14, 2018 by Kathryn 121 Comments

After talking about it for quite some time, our little family recently decided to add another member to our family. One of the reasons we’d been excited to buy an acreage was the fact we’d finally have to room to add a pet to our family. And when we saw an adorable Bengal kitten available in our area, we couldn’t resist him!

Having a kitten in the house is a lot of fun, but if there’s one thing about cats that’s no fun at all, it’s cleaning a litter box. So, when PetSafe Canada gave me the chance to review its innovative ScoopFree litter box, I was delighted.

This litter box is designed to make dealing with cat waste as pleasant of an experience as it can possibly be. First, we put the disposable cardboard box in place under the litter box top. Then we added the included Blue Crystal Litter and plugged in the device. [Read more…]

Let Your Kids Get a Little Gross this Christmas with The Ugglys Pet Shop-Giveaway

December 7, 2015 by Kathryn 76 Comments

Do your kids prefer weird and gross to cute and cuddly? Do they laugh hysterically at rude noises and bad smells? Does just saying the word “fart” cause a reaction in your house? Then this Christmas, the perfect gift may just be The Ugglys Pet Shop toys! These bizarre pets may not seem lovable, but kids can’t get enough of their weird wackiness.

Recently I received an assortment of The Ugglys Pet Shop figurines and accessories to review, and with two school-aged boys in the house, I was pretty sure they’d be popular. I liked the collectible size of the pets and I have to admit that they really were pretty cute, in a gross way! Just like real pets, there were cats, dogs, birds, monkeys and lizards to choose from, all with their own unique style. [Read more…]

Let Kids Interact and Play with Little Live Pets Tweet Talking Birds

May 28, 2015 by Kathryn 95 Comments

I’ve mentioned before how much my youngest son loves animals, and I know he’s not the only one. There’s something about the idea of interacting with a living creature of another species that kids seem to find absolutely fascinating. Of course, not every parent is willing to put up with the work of having a pet. Even my boys’ goldfish are a bit of a pain to care for at times!

Luckily, there are toys that are so interactive that playing with one is almost like having a real pet and Little Live Pets Tweet Talking Birds are a perfect example! These adorable birds not only chirp and sing when you pet them, they actually record and repeat your child’s speech just like a parrot!

Bond with Your Cat this Winter with These 3 Easy Tips

March 5, 2015 by Kathryn 2 Comments

Even though the long winter is finally reaching its end, there are still some cold days left before families can run and play outside. Since so many of us are trapped indoors, it’s a great time to cuddle up and spend some extra time with a beloved cat! Sadly, according to the Ontario SPCA, nearly one-fifth of cats were returned to shelters in Ontario in 2013, post-holiday. The top three reasons included cats conflicting with other pets in the home, allergic reactions and behavioural problems, including litter box issues. Spend some quality time with your cat to make them feel at ease and part of the family with these three great tips!

Treat their Tummies

Make sure your cats maintain a healthy and balanced diet. This may require consulting your veterinarian. Just like humans, cats have different nutritional needs depending on their age and health. Otherwise, stick to quality food and fresh, clean water. Despite popular belief, milk shouldn’t be a main source of hydration and may actually cause stomach discomfort. [Read more…]

Create the Purr-fect Forever Home for Your New Cat with These 4 Tips

November 18, 2014 by Kathryn 29 Comments

When we first got our cat, Racer, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about adding a pet to our home. I had enough to handle with a preschooler and a newborn in the house and didn’t want to have to worry about feeding and caring for anyone else. But within a few months, I couldn’t imagine life without my spunky Siamese cross and was so happy that she’d become a member of our family.

Adopting a cat is a momentous occasion, but it requires consideration too! The holidays are one of the most popular times to add a pet to your family and that’s sure to be a decision that causes changes in your daily routine. But with a little preparation and consideration for your new cat, the adjustment will be quick and you’ll be free to enjoy all the fun your pet adds to your life!
