Take Small Steps to Healthier Living this Year with 4 Simple Tips

One of the facts I’ve found to be true time and time again when it comes to making positive lifestyle changes is that small steps can make a big difference. This year, Church & Dwight has a few easy tips that can help you live a healthier life all year long…without the stress of trying to stick to a New Year’s resolution! Here’s four simple goals that anyone can maintain with ease in 2016:

Take the stairs:

You can take small steps towards a healthier you, literally. Not quite realistic if you work on the 42nd floor, but think escalators at the mall, moving sidewalks at the airport, that errand that’s a two minute drive away…skip all shortcuts and walk! You can also get a pedometer or smartphone fitness app that counts your steps and calories burned so you can measure your results.

Make 2016 the Best Year Yet with Orange Naturals-Giveaway #ONatural

I’ve never really been one to make New Year’s resolutions because I find that so often they’re approached with an “all or nothing” mentality. Instead, I set a few goals that I can work towards throughout the year, then evaluate my success when the year ends. I try to set goals for all the different aspects of my life: career, family, travel and health.

This year, with my 35th birthday just a few weeks away, health is a big focus for the upcoming year. Since moving to a city townhouse, my daily walks to run errands and take my boys to school have been eliminated. And that means my exercise level has gone way down. Plus, with takeout places now just minutes away, I’ve been eating out a little more than I’d like. So the new year is the perfect time for me to take charge and improve my health once and for all!

First off, I’m committing to exercising three times a week. As much as I’d prefer to set the goal of exercising every day, I think that trying to do too much too soon is likely to lead to giving up on the entire idea. But three days of doing a half-hour walk on the treadmill followed by half an hour of yoga is an easier commitment that I know I’ll be able to maintain. [Read more…]

My Top 3 Health and Wellness Goals for 2015

While I don’t usually make specific New Year’s Resolutions, January for me has always been a time to reflect on the successes of the past year and make new goals for the year ahead. This year, there are a few different aspects of my life that I aim to improve and one of those is my health and fitness level.

I’m at a healthy weight overall, but I know that there are many nutritional areas I could improve and since I’ll soon be turning 34, ensuring good health is only going to get more and more important as the years go by. So for 2015, these are my top three health and fitness goals:

1. Exercise

I have to admit that exercising regularly is never something I’ve enjoyed. And for the most part I haven’t really needed to do it either since I walk or bike when running errands and live a fairly active lifestyle overall. But with my boys growing older and gaining more independence, I find I’m not moving around as much as I used to. That’s why for 2015, I’ve decided that in addition to my daily physical activity, I will do at least 30 minutes of strength-training three times a week. Increasing Family Time-Goals for a New Year #MomTrust

I often say that I think of the New Year as a time to set goals rather than resolutions. My goals change every year. Sometimes a goal gets renewed for another year. But the most important thing is taking the time to evaluate and see how I can create the best life possible for myself and my family.

My boys are a huge part of that goal setting process and this year in particular, spending time with them is a focus for me. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busy routine of our lives and not realize that time, and our children’s youth, is quickly slipping away. As part of the Playtex Mom Trust program, I was asked to share my goals for the coming year and hopefully provide some inspiration to other parents setting their own goals. So to ensure that my boys and I are both enjoying their childhood, these will be three of my goals for the coming year:

1) I Will Make Time for Fun

My boys and I got to have all kinds of amazing experiences last year, from our first trip to Disneyland to a fabulous vacation at the Beaches Resort in Jamaica to a road trip to the West Edmonton Mall. Those are memories that will last a lifetime, but they were interspaced by weeks and weeks of routine. Some of life’s best experiences are ones we have at home, so one day each weekend, I will be exclusively planning a fun activity with my boys. Whether we head to the kitchen to make cookies together or pack a picnic and spend the day at the park, I will be making consistent quality time with my boys one of my top priorities. [Read more…]
