August 12, 2019 by Kathryn 8 Comments

It’s always a treat to discover a great tourist attraction right in my own back yard and luckily for me, there are plenty of amazing things to do in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and the surrounding area.

But there are always new sites and activities to discover, and this year I was introduced to one that the whole family will enjoy! The Wheatland Express Excursion Train is an award-winning Saskatchewan attraction that features themed train rides about an hour outside of Saskatoon!

From murder mysteries to music concerts, there’s a train ride for everyone on the Wheatland Express. And for families, the Family Summer Express train is sure to be a hit! We were given the chance to hop on board the Family Summer Express on July 28, and I couldn’t wait to see what it was like. [Read more…]

Must-Visit Historic Sites and Attractions Near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

July 30, 2017 by Kathryn 12 Comments

Canada’s 150th birthday celebration has been full of all kinds of excitement, but what I’ve loved most about the occasion has been getting the chance to see more of the beautiful and diverse country that I call home.

Ford Canada has been helping bloggers across the country explore some of the hidden treasures near their homes and recently I had the chance to do just that in the Ford F-150 Lariat!

Since I have a baby on the way, my husband and I decided not to venture too far away from our hometown of Saskatoon, but we soon realized that we didn’t have to travel very far for amazing experiences! On our first day, we drove to Fort Carlton, a Saskatchewan heritage site that was once an important stop on the Hudson Bay Company’s trade route.

One of the best things about this site is the fact that it’s so hands-on. We had the chance to feel the difference between the different types of furs that trappers brought to trade, see some of the iconic Hudson’s Bay blankets used by trappers and learn about the most popular items in Fort Carlton’s general store. Discover 4 Must-Visit Moose Jaw Attractions and Focus on the City with Ford

October 8, 2015 by Kathryn 22 Comments

Saskatchewan is definitely not a heavily promoted province when it comes to tourism, but having lived here my entire life, I know exactly how many great attractions it has to offer. And Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is the perfect example of that. From museums to the mineral pool, it’s packed with attractions that are fun for the whole family. And recently I had the chance to explore a few of my favourites in a gorgeous 2015 Ford Focus during the Ford Canada Focus on My City event! If you’re in the Moose Jaw area, these are four attractions you’ll want to check out!

Moose Jaw Western Development Museum

This museum was the first stop on our day of exploring Moose Jaw, and it’s a must-visit in the city. With exhibits that take families on a walk through the history of transportation, it’s a fascinating look into how far we’ve come in our journey by road, rail and air. Kids will love the antique vehicles and adults will appreciate learning more about the development of various vehicles and transportation methods.

It’s hard to believe, but summer is already half over! Since we were packing and moving last month, we didn’t really get to have a proper summer vacation this year, and I couldn’t help feeling a little bad about that. But thanks to InterContintental Hotels Group, I was able to still make the most of summer by heading off on a staycation in Saskatchewan’s capital city!

One of my biggest decisions was which IHG hotel to choose for our trip, and after checking out my options, I decided on the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in the eastern end of the city. The hotel boasted a variety of family-friendly features that I knew we would all appreciate, including free meals for kids at the attached restaurant as part of Holiday Inn’s Kids Stay and Eat Free program, free high-speed Internet and a pool with a waterslide. It was also conveniently located just minutes from the downtown area.

I used IHG Rewards Club Points to book my stay, with 30,000 points being good for one night. To my surprise, I realized that I could book any room with my points, which meant instead of getting a basic single room with two Queen beds as I had planned, I was able to get a Family Suite featuring a master bedroom with a king bed and a second room with two queen beds for the boys! The Saskatchewan prairies often get overlooked as a vacation destination, and even though I’ve lived in Saskatchewan my entire life, I’m guilty of sometimes forgetting just how much our capital city of Regina has to offer. Luckily for me, I recently had the chance to rediscover the beauty of Regina when InterContinental Hotels Group offered me the chance to enjoy a staycation getaway. If you’re considering a trip to Regina in the future, these four family-friendly attractions are ones you should check out.
