Create Your Perfect Summer Drink Blend with Pure Leaf Iced Tea

May 23, 2016 by Kathryn 36 Comments

When it comes to summer beverages, I love a drink that’s cold, refreshing and healthy. And when that drink can also have zero calories, that’s even better! That’s why I was so excited to try new Pure Leaf Iced Tea. Made with real brewed tea, it comes in three delicious flavours all boasting zero calories per serving! I was challenged to create some fun summer drink combinations using Pure Leaf Iced Tea and I couldn’t wait.

Berry Lemony Iced Tea

Raspberries, blackberries and Pure Leaf Lemon Iced Tea combine to make a refreshing light beverage on a hot summer’s day. I loved the hint of tartness from the lemon, which brought out the sweetness of the summer berries beautifully. This could be made with any combination of berries and be delicious! [Read more…]

Nature’s Path Coconut Chia Tropical Smoothie Bowl Recipe

January 26, 2016 by Kathryn 219 Comments

While a new year starts out with great intentions for many people, it’s usually around the end of January that resolve starts to fade and we start to slip in our attempts to stick to our new goals.

Whether a bout of cold weather convinces you to skip that run, or an especially busy week has you reaching for the phone to order takeout instead of cooking at home, little stumbles don’t have to mean the end of good intentions! And this year, Nature’s Path wants to help keep you on the path to good health.

Getting Healthy and Fit in the New Year

February 10, 2015 by Kathryn 40 Comments

Even though I’m at a fairly good weight for my size, I’ve known for some time that I really need to implement a proper fitness routine. In the past, when my weight started to creep up or I started to feel heavy and low on energy, I’ve invariably turned to diet changes to correct the problem. And while it does work well, I know that my body needs more. Now that I’m in my mid-thirties, building up my strength and endurance is just as important as eating well and I’ve decided 2015 is the year that I’ll be embracing good health and exercise.

Luckily for me, Almond Breeze stepped in to help get me started. The company sent me a fabulous fitness package so that I could get a jump on good health this year, complete with a fitness journal, a jump rope, a single-serve blender and coupons for delicious and nutritious Almond Breeze beverage.

Five Sneaky Ways to Make Your Family’s Smoothies Healthier

July 16, 2014 by Kathryn

There’s nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than a smoothie, and with so much fresh fruit and ice in each one, they’re a healthy choice too! But I like to find ways to make smoothies even healthier and to make sure my boys drink their smoothies too, I sometimes have to be sneaky about it!

Luckily, there are a few great foods that can be added to smoothies to boost their health, yet don’t affect the taste, so adults and kids alike can get extra nutrition without even knowing it! Here are my top five sneaky ways to make smoothies healthier:

Ground Flax

With some studies finding evidence this tiny seed may reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, ground flax is one of my all-time favourite additions to any meal. In fact, I love flax seed whole too but for optimal digestion and to ensure it can’t be tasted in a smoothie, ground flax is the better choice. Just a teaspoon in your drink will add omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant-rich lignans and two essential types of fibre to your diet!

Earth’s Best Greek Yogurt Smoothies are a Handy and Healthy Snack for Kids

March 28, 2013 by Kathryn 2 Comments

earths best greek yogurt smoothieI love Greek Yogurt but I have to admit that I thought its current popularity was due solely to its thick and creamy texture. I was surprised to learn that Greek Yogurt actually has almost double the protein, more nutrients and half the sodium of regular yogurt, which means its appeal goes far beyond that great taste and texture!

Earth’s Best first introduced its Greek Yogurt Smoothies a few months ago and my boys have been fans of the snack ever since. A blend of real organic fruit, Greek Yogurt and whey, these smoothies are the perfect filling and nutritious snack for any time of day. And since they’re shelf-stable and packaged in a handy on-the-go pouch, they’re perfect for lunchboxes and road trips too! [Read more…]
