I always think it’s a hard thing when a child’s creativity is thwarted by an adult’s reluctance to clean up a mess. Crafts and artwork are so good for kids, but honestly, I can only force myself to cheerfully clean up so many paint and glue spills in a day. That’s why I love Moon Dough, one of the fabulous products made by Spin Master. It gives kids all the fun of creative crafting while saving parents all the mess. And best of all, Moon Dough never, ever dries out! Recently my boys got the chance to review the newest product from Moon Dough, the Moon Dough Magic Zoo, and they couldn’t wait to get busy.
Moon Dough has a soft, marshmallow-like texture and feels slightly more crumbly than traditional play clay. It is incredibly fun to play with and it is especially perfect for shaping using a mould. The Moon Dough Magic Zoo includes three colours of Moon Dough, three different animal moulds, two sets of wind-up legs and the Magic Zoo itself, which really does work just like magic!
The first thing Zackary and I did was put one of the animal moulds into place in the plastic “cage.” We decided to use the gorilla initially. Then we filled the mould with purple Moon Dough and clicked it shut.
I slid the cage into position on the Zoo and then placed a set of wind-up legs at the bottom of the Zoo’s archway. The winder clipped into a hole on the side of the arch to keep the legs in position. With that, the magic show was ready to begin!
The Moon Dough Magic Zoo features a winding crank on the top of the arch and when I began turning it, the filled mould began moving down towards the plastic legs as the winder on the side of the legs automatically wound itself up at the same time. When the mould was in just the right position, it popped open and our adorable Moon Dough gorilla walked out of the archway!
I ran through the process a few more times until Zackary had mastered the steps and then he spent the next hour creating Moon Dough animals for himself and his brother. Benjamin absolutely loved the walking animals, though he sometimes gave quite a jump when the cage popped open! And of course, as soon as the animals started walking towards him, he had to greet them with a cheery, “Hi!”
The boys both loved the Moon Dough Magic Zoo and played with it every day for at least a week after receiving it. I loved how easy it was to clean up; Moon Dough is virtually impossible to make a mess with. When the boys were done playing, I simply gathered the majority of the Moon Dough together and used the resulting ball to pick up any small pieces that were left on the table or floor!
At one point, the purple Moon Dough got lost in the papers that cover one end of our table (the table is also where I do my blog work) and when we found it over a week later, it was still just as pliable as it had been when we had opened the package the first time.
Both my boys and I loved the Moon Dough Magic Zoo. Zackary and Benjamin loved shaping and moulding the dough. I loved the quick cleanup when they were done playing. And we all loved the fun walking animals that the Moon Dough Magic Zoo created! For fun and creative play with the easiest cleanup and storage imaginable, check out the Moon Dough Magic Zoo for yourself!
