Make Your Easter Baking Easier with Frozen Berry Cream Pie

March 25, 2013 by Kathryn 169 Comments

I love making fancy, decadent desserts but between my blog and my boys, I don’t have a whole lot of time to spend in the kitchen. Quick and easy is the name of the game in this house!

I love pies for just that reason. Pastry is the most finicky part of most pies, but a store-bought shell simplifies the job and speeds up my cooking.

It took me quite a while to master a basic pie pastry and while I do make it myself every once in a while, I love using Tenderflake Deep Dish Pie Shells or my favourite graham cracker shell when I’m eager to get dessert finished quickly.

So when I was looking for a fun spring dessert for our family’s upcoming Easter celebration, I grabbed a graham cracker pie crust from the store and started brainstorming. Since spring always has me craving fresh, fruity flavours, I used the crust to create an incredibly simple Frozen Berry Cream Pie. [Read more…]

Dessert Made Easy With New Tenderflake Easy Pie Kits-Review

March 6, 2012 by Kathryn 4 Comments

I love cooking and baking, but I don’t get to do either nearly as much as I would like. My free time is pretty limited and the days when I can use that free time for creating a culinary masterpiece are few and far between.

Living in a house full of dessert-loving, always-hungry males, this is considered quite the tragedy. So when I heard about Tenderflake’s new Easy Pie kits, I knew I had to try them out, not just for myself, but also for my boys!

These clever kits contain everything you need to put together a tasty home baked pie in just minutes. They are available in both a double-crust and a crumble topping variety, and while I was incredibly tempted by the double crust, I decided to try the crumble topping instead.

Every kit includes a six-inch piecrust, a spice packet and the appropriate topping, in this case, the crumble mix. My favourite feature of these kits was the spice packet. I simply tossed it with my fresh fruit (I used good old reliable apples) and then poured the fruit into the pie shell.

I combined the crumble mix with a bit of butter and sprinkled it on top. And just like that, my pie was ready for a quick half-hour in the oven!

The other thing I loved about this product was that it promoted portion control! My husband has a pretty powerful sweet tooth and no matter what size a dessert is, he will do his best to finish it in one sitting! With the great six-inch size of the Easy Pie, that was no problem. There was just enough for Zackary and Benjamin to have a small serving with enough pie left for my husband and I to enjoy a sensible portion too.

Tenderflake Easy Pie kits retail for about $4.29 and are a great way to enjoy a home-baked treat any day of the week. Check them out for yourself and dig into a delicious dessert you can make in a flash!

Buy It: Tenderflake Easy Pie kits are available in the freezer aisle at major grocery stores across Canada
