On December 11, 2012, just in time for Christmas gift giving, Ice Age: Continental Drift will be released on Blu-ray and DVD and my boys couldn’t wait to see what adventures Manny the Mammoth and his friends experienced in the new movie. So they were delighted when I received a screener copy of the film to review. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Sub-zero heroes Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon a high-seas adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they try to reunite with their herd. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.
This movie, like the previous Ice Age films, is one I can immediately appreciate because it features enough subtle adult humour to be entertaining for me, a plot that my school-aged son could enjoy and lots of funny slapstick moments that my youngest son found hilarious. It’s not always easy to find a movie that my boys and I all love, but this was definitely one of those films that truly embrace the concept of family entertainment. And because the movie really celebrates the bond between father and daughter, 20th Century Fox has some great tips for a fun-filled “Daddy and Me” time. [Read more…]
