Add Music to Playtime with the LEGO Jams Children’s CD

Music has always been a big part of my life. My father plays guitar, my mother plays piano and through my youth I learned to play piano, clarinet, saxophone and trombone. I am a huge believer in the power of music on a child’s intellectual development and it’s one of the reasons that I’ve featured so many amazing children’s musicians on my site.

LEGO DUPLO understands the effect that music can have on creativity too. In fact, a 2011 study of parents with children between one and five years of age revealed that among children that listen to music during playtime, 55% of children are happier when music is coupled with play; 50% are more excited to play when they hear music and 43% act sillier when music is coupled with play.

My boys have shown the same love of music that I have myself and it’s rare that there isn’t music in some form playing in the house. From softer background music after school to upbeat tunes during impromptu dance parties, Zackary and Benjamin are always happier listening to some of their favourite songs. And they have lots of favourites! From Canadian children’s musician Will Stroet to the fun-loving musical duo Splash & Boots to the hilarious Billy Kelly, we never get stuck listening to the same songs over and over in our house!

Recently, we had the chance to discover the fun and upbeat LEGO Jams CD, featuring nine kid-friendly tracks that are sure to get little ones moving. Brick Racer is by far my car-loving boys’ favourite and is also the background music in this video of one of my boys’ dance parties. Benjamin has some pretty unique dance moves but Zackary’s wild energy is what really makes me grin when the boys start dancing!

If your kids love music as much as mine do, LEGO DUPLO wants to help you enjoy a little more of it with a fun giveaway! One lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader will win their own LEGO Jams CD! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about whether your kids listen to music while they play.

Adding music to your children’s playtime is such an easy thing to do, but it can have a big impact on the way that they play and learn, so the next time you pull out the LEGO DUPLO bricks, grab one of your family’s favourite CDs too and let your kids sing and dance along as they play!

Disclosure: I am a LEGO DUPLO Play Agent and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

  1. My kid always does. He plays harmonica, drums, and guitar with his daddy :) and listens to music well playing. He’s not even 4 yet :)

  2. My kids LOVE listening to music! They love to dance and sing as well. Usually when I put music on for them they end up dropping whatever they are doing and start dancing lol.

  3. My son always loves to listen to music no matter what he’s doing. My daughter who just turned one, even dances to it !
