Today is Sunscreen Protection Day and I have to admit that as much as I understand the importance of sun safety, I am leery about some commercial sunscreens. I don’t like exposing my boys to harsh chemicals any more than I have to and since there are great natural sunscreens available, I prefer using them when possible. So when I learned that Banana Boat had a brand new naturally sourced sunscreen available, I was thrilled. I recently got the chance to be one of the first in Canada to test out new Banana Boat Natural Reflect Kids sunscreen and since the boys and I were getting ready to jet off to sunny California, the timing couldn’t have been better.
The weather in California was just as warm and wonderful as I could have hoped for and I knew we’d be making good use of the sunscreen on the trip. The boys actually use less than I do for the most part since their t-shirts and wide-brimmed hats just leave their arms and legs exposed to the sun. Since I prefer tank tops, my shoulders tend to get a lot of sun in the course of a day and I actually forgot my sunscreen and burned them a bit on our first day in Disneyland! After that, I made sure to apply our sunscreen every morning before we left the hotel.
The Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen uses zinc and titanium to protect skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and as far as the texture and consistency of the sunscreen, I found it to be very similar to most other sunscreens I’ve tried. It was thick, creamy and took a little extra rubbing to absorb into skin without leaving white residue behind but once it had absorbed completely, it left my skin feeling smooth and not overly sticky, which is always a plus for me. And after spending the next few hours in the afternoon sun, I was delighted to see that the boys’ arms and my quick-to-burn shoulders hadn’t gotten red at all. The sunscreen provided great gentle protection all without parabens, PABA and oxybenzone!
If you’d love to be one of the first to try the new Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen and share your thoughts with the rest of Canada, you’re in luck! Sunscreen is a daily must in my house!
There’s sunscreen in my day cream and I use sunscreen only if I plan to stay out for a long time!
Yes, I wear sunscreen all summer as I tend to burn quite easily.
I do, it is the best to take caution against wrinkles.
I always do! :)
I normally dont wear sunscreen but my kids always do
Just if it is in my makeup or lotion or lipbalm.
always use sunscreen!!
I normally do not as I usually hibernate inside all year ’round. If I do go out, I will look at this product with great interest (now all they have to do is get the Canadian Cancer Society on-board and have them apply their vigorous testing standards and award them a seal of approval!)
I have sunscreen in my daily lotion and lip balm but it is minimal and I should definitely be wearing more.
