As far as my boys and I are concerned, our stuffies are part of the family. Zackary and Benjamin both have a large collection of stuffed animals and while some of their stuffies are casual friends at best, certain stuffed animals are so important to my boys that the plush toys are carried everywhere. And it’s not hard to know where that loyalty came from…Good Luck Bear and Mr. Moose are actually my stuffies and while I don’t carry them around, they’re always up in their own special spots on my desk. Who says stuffed animals are just for kids?
Of course, since the boys take their stuffies adventuring with them almost everywhere, the fabric often ends up getting completely filthy. And while some plush toys can be washed and dried without issue, others lose that appealing soft fluffiness after being machine-washed. So when I heard that the second Maytag Blogger Challenge was to get our family of stuffies clean and fresh WITHOUT washing them, I couldn’t have been happier.

And while for the boys, the fresh and clean smell was the most noticeable change in some of their favourite stuffies, I have to admit that what I was most pleased about was knowing that all those other animals my boys loved most were clean and germ-free too. Benjamin may not have been happy about losing Baby Owl and Bunny for that hour, but considering the places he takes those animals, I certainly appreciate knowing that the bacteria and allergens have been removed from his favourite friends!

We have three children and all three of them got a favorite stuffie. My Oldest Robyn got a dog the first time she had to spend time in the Children’s hospital all night her name is Brownie and she has had her since she was 3 years old, she is now 11 and takes Brownie everywhere and sleeps with him every night. Our middle child is Riley, he has a beanie bear that looks like a brown bear he got him when he was about 4 and has taken him with him everywhere and sleeps with him every night. He got him when he had a tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy he named him Barry. Our youngest boy is Dalton, he loves stuffies but his absolutely favorite thing is his silk blanket that he got when he was 4 months old, he takes it everywhere and sleeps with it he is now 5.

My kids have always had a collection of stuffed animals that they played and slept with..but they are now 34 & 35 yrs old with kids of their own. My grandson who is now almost 17 still has his favorite animal “Duckie” that I gave to him when he was 3. He has it neatly tucked away on a shelf in his room. I
take it down and wash it for him every once in a while and it will be the first thing he notices that’s missing from his room when he comes home. So after carefully washing I place it back on the sheld where it belongs…wonder if he will take it to college?? LOL
