It can be hard sometimes to take a break from the rush of school and work to spend time having fun with loved ones, but if there’s one way to ensure a night of laughter and great bonding, it’s a game night! And whether you love lots of socializing, plenty of activity or witty banter, Mattel has tons of great board games that will be perfect for your next game night with family or friends!
Recently Mattel challenged me to host a Mattel Game On! party and sent me a fabulous Game On! party pack to help with the fun. I started by taking the adorable Gameology quiz on Facebook and learning that when it comes to games, I’m a Strategicorn, a careful planner that believes thinking things through can result in victory in any game. As a result, my party pack was filled with games perfect for a strategist including Mad Gab, Phase 10 and Apples to Apples. But because I’d planned a party involving my extended family including younger children, there were also strategy games for all ages including the fun and kid-friendly Kerplunk.
My boys were absolutely giddy about getting ready for game night and when we finally all sat down, they convinced their “Nan” to play a game of Kerplunk right away. But while the premise of the game is simply pulling out plastic sticks to see who makes the marbles drop down, there really is quite a bit of strategy involved. My boys soon figured out that by studying the placement of the marbles, they could find sticks that were less likely to cause marbles to fall to the bottom. By the third game, my mom and the boys were able to get to the end with only two sticks left holding the final marble in place!
We also enjoyed some fun and colourful fortune cookies with juice and everyone enjoyed the party favours of Mattel Game On! bottle openers. To make our little party extra fun, I sent home one of the games I received with my mom to ensure that the next time we visited, we could have even more fun together!

I had so much fun spending quality time with my family over a few great games and I can’t wait to try out some of the other ones I received as well. While most are a little old for Benjamin, I know Zackary will have a great time playing the Uno dice game with me, and Mad Gab is going to be a blast for our family’s annual Christmas Day board game.
