Keep Things Clean with the Bissell Multi-Surface Expert Canister Vacuum

Vacuuming is a never-ending chore; no matter how well you do it, it’s always there waiting for you to do it again a week or two later. And this modern day Sisyphean myth isn’t helped when we also have to drag around a heavy, clunky machine. An awkward appliance is one thing if it does the job, but a lot of cheaper vacuums on the market simply don’t have enough suction power to properly clean your home.

Bissell recognizes this issue and have come out with a new product for Canadians. The Bissell Multi-Surface Expert canister vacuum promises strong suction throughout your cleaning activity. As the name implies, it’s also designed to work on a variety of surfaces with ease. I was recently given the opportunity to test out this vacuum, and as it just so happened my car needed a thorough cleaning after the rough winter we Ontario folks had.

One of the first things I noticed was how light the unit was compared to my current vacuum. The plastic body really cuts down on the bulk, while the large handle makes it easy to carry from room to room. The over-sized power and cord retraction buttons on the base are designed for foot operation, reducing the number of times you have to bend down. The heart of the vacuum is the removable canister housing the cyclonic engine. A side benefit of the design is its vacuum bags – there are none! A bagless canister means one less expense in your household budget and less fuss dealing with flimsy bags. The clear housing also shows how much dirt you’ve sucked up, taking the guesswork out of deciding when it’s time to empty the canister. (It also provides a small thrill to see the efforts of your handiwork.)

Out of the box, you get an assortment of tools to tackle most everyday jobs. For my car I used the smaller upholstery head to clean the seats and the foot well. I could quickly see dirt being pulled out of the material as it accumulated in the canister. The quick “1-Clic™” system allowed me to swap out the attachments with, you guessed it, one click. This easy means of adapting the vacuum to meet cleaning challenges makes the job much less frustrating.

If there are any criticisms to be had, they’re minor ones. I found the handle to be a little awkward to use when used without the extension wand. The multi-surface head also required a little bit more effort to use on carpets (though to be fair it glided effortlessly on hard floors). Finally, I found the unit to be average in terms of the noise it generated.

At an affordable suggested price of $179.99, this all-in-one canister vacuum more than lived up to the tasks I set to it. You could spend hundreds more (which I have!) on competing brands that may offer more bells and whistles, but for average consumers this unit should provide all the benefits you need from a multi-surface vacuum at a price that can’t be beat. Find the Bissell Multi-Surface Expert canister vacuum at stores across Canada and tackle a variety of cleaning jobs with way less hassle!

  1. Would so love this for cleaning my car as there is always dog fur everywhere, looks and sounds awesome :)

  2. Our dog is a constant shedder, so we need to vacuum everyday. This size vacuum is perfect for the stairs, where the hair tends to accummulate

The size of this vacuum seems like it would be good for carpeted stairs like the ones we have in our house. My current vacuum is an awkward size and weight.

  4. the only complaint I have with this one and the Dyson’s are the handle is way to big and clunky, it’s hard to use the hose because of this, other than that they are great machines and I have been trying to talk my hubby into getting me a canister vacuum, I’ll have to show him this review
