Decorate for Halloween with Two Easy DIY Crafts and Earn Double RBC Reward Points at Home Depot

Halloween has always been one of my favourite holidays. I love the costumes, the decorations and the fun spooky spirit of the season. So I also love creating DIY décor for the yard to get everyone into the Halloween spirit! This year, we don’t have a whole lot of space to decorate since the front yard of our townhouse is fairly small. So with my RBC Rewards Credit Card in hand, I headed to The Home Depot Canada to stock up on supplies for a few easy decorations for small spaces…giant garbage bag spiders and glowing chicken wire ghosts!

I bought PVC pipe, elbow connecters, black spray paint, glow-in-the-dark spray paint and both one and two-inch chicken fencing. Then I added a cute plastic jack-o-lantern that plugged into the wall as a fun finishing touch! With my supplies in hand, it was time to get creative.

For the spider, I cut the PVC pipe into twelve-inch lengths. When I had sixteen pieces, I spray painted the pipe and eight connecters black. Then I used the connectors and pipe to create eight legs. The final step was to simply stuff a garbage bag with leave and crumpled paper, tie off a portion for the head and add a face. Then I mounted the legs in the front yard and placed the body of the spider between them. The finished creation looked fantastic!

Then it was time to work on the ghost. Using wire cutters, Jeremy and I cut sections of the fencing and bent them into shape to resemble a woman in a dress. The holes in the wire gave the sculpture a great ethereal look even in the daylight. Joining together the different sections was probably the trickiest part; we used small pieces of twistable wire to join the bottom, torso, arms and head together. Then, for a fun finishing touch, I sprayed the entire sculpture with glow-in-the-dark paint. Seeing the glowing figure in the dark was quite a spooky moment!

All of the supplies for our creations cost under $100 and the finished decorations are ones we will be able to enjoy for years. Best of all, since I earned two times rewards points with my RBC Rewards Credit Card, something that made decorating for Halloween even more fun.
