Festive Mexican Layered Dip Makes a Perfect Holiday Appetizer

November 28, 2015 by Kathryn 47 Comments

I am a huge fan of holiday food and while I’ve got a special place in my heart for Christmas sweets and treats of all kinds, I have to admit that as an adult, there’s another type of holiday food that I love even more…appetizers! In fact, our family’s Christmas Eve tradition is to put out big trays of assorted appetizers in the late afternoon and snack on them all night long until bedtime.

Considering how much I love appetizers, it goes without saying that I’ve got quite a few recipes that are favourites not just with me, but with everyone that samples them. From decadent crab and cream cheese stuffed mushrooms to homemade oven-baked hot wings, there’s no shortage of appetizer options in this house! But one of my all-time favourite recipes, both because of its ease and its popularity, is this Festive Layered Mexican Dip!

Tangy Jalapeno Scallops Make an Easy Gourmet Appetizer

October 29, 2015 by Kathryn 60 Comments

I’ve been a huge fan of seafood ever since I was a child, and that’s something I don’t ever see changing. From tender crab to meaty shrimp and succulent salmon to hearty cod, if it’s from the ocean then I love it. But in today’s world, making sure that the seafood we eat is sustainable is more important than ever before. Luckily, I have an easy way to do just that thanks to the Marine Stewardship Council!

As much as I wished I could find sustainable seafood choices previously, I had a hard time knowing whether fish was sustainably sourced or not. Now, the MSC ecolabel lets me know at a glance that the fish I’m buying has been certified for coming from a well-managed and sustainable fishery. With a gift card in hand to create my dish, I headed to my local Real Canadian Superstore to grab ingredients for a delicious and eco-friendly Tangy Jalapeno Scallops appetizer!

Join the @KraftCanada #BringsTheHeat Twitter Party on June 25 at 8pm EST

June 23, 2015 by Kathryn Leave a Comment

If there’s one thing I adore, it’s a little heat in my food. In fact, it’s a love I’ve had ever since I was a child, and my mom often tells the story of me sitting on my dad’s lap as a toddler and gobbling spicy chili with joy. As an adult, my tastes haven’t changed much so I love finding new ways to kick up the heat level in my favourite dishes.

If there’s one thing I love even more than a spicy meal, though, it’s Philadelphia Cream Cheese. And now, Kraft Canada has taken two of my very favourite things and combined them into one glorious new product. Kraft Philadelphia Jalapeno Cream Cheese takes the cool, creamy flavour of Philly and pairs it with the mouth-watering heat of jalapenos for a taste that has it all!

To celebrate the debut of new Philadelphia Jalapeno Cream Cheese, Kraft Canada is hosting a fantastic Twitter party that you won’t want to miss! Come join in the fun on Thursday, June 25 at 8pm EST for the #BringsTheHeat Twitter party! We’ll be chatting about ways to heat up your cooking and sharing ideas on how to use this delicious new Philly product too.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a party without prizes! Ten lucky participants will win a Kraft Philadelphia Jalapeno Cream Cheese Gift Basket worth $100 so that you can add more heat to your summer. Please note that prizes are open to Canadian residents only, but everyone is welcome to join in the conversation! Get Cheesy! Three Gourmet Grilled Cheese Recipes for National Grilled Cheese Month

April 23, 2014 by Kathryn 70 Comments

If there’s one thing that I make no secret of, it’s my love of cheese. Of all the foods in the world, it is quite easily my favourite and I add it to virtually any dish I can think of.

I make all kinds of meals with cheese, but for a quick lunch or an afternoon snack, there’s simply nothing better than a grilled cheese sandwich made with Kraft Singles cheese slices.

As luck would have it, April is National Grilled Cheese Month, and since I definitely don’t wait until April to enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches, I wanted to do something extra special to commemorate the event. And so the Grilled Cheese Party was born!

The boys and I created three gourmet twists on the classic grilled cheese sandwich with the help of an array of different toppings and bread. If you love grilled cheese, you will definitely want to try one of these tasty variations! [Read more…]
