Sid the Science Kid: The Movie on DVD Has Action and Education for Kids-Giveaway

Who’s every kid’s favourite insatiably curious little scientist? Sid the Science Kid, of course! Sid, like most young children, is always asking questions about the world around him. And in his search for the answers, he helps teach kids about the scientific process! Zackary discovered this hit PBS Kids show when he was about three years old and I have to admit, I was a bit of a fan myself! And now Sid is starring in his very own movie now available on DVD! Here’s a brief synopsis of Sid the Science Kid: The Movie:

Sid and his classmate Gabriela enter a contest and win the exclusive opportunity to visit a new modern science museum before it opens to the public. There the kids meet a quirky scientist, voiced by special guest star Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), who has designed robot tour guides of the future! Then one of the robots goes haywire and the grand opening is in jeopardy! It is up to Sid and his friends to work as a team to find the rogue robot and save the day!

My boys were so excited to watch this movie featuring Sid and Gabriela. They especially loved the robot tour guides that were featured in the movie, since Zackary has lately had a fascination with robots that he has passed to his brother. Dinosaur Train: Eggstravaganza DVD-Review and Giveaway

Dinosaur Train has been a favourite in our household for some time, so when the hit show’s newest DVD release Dinosaur Train: Eggstravaganza arrived at our front door, my boys couldn’t have been happier about it. Here’s a brief synopsis of the release:

What can be better than a basket full of Easter eggs? How about a train full of dinosaur eggs! Buddy and his Pteranodon family set off for new adventures as they encounter baby hatchlings and dinosaur eggs of all shapes and sizes in Dinosaur Train: Eggstravaganza! They’ll learn that all dinosaur families are different, and so are the ways of nurturing them. And who knows, they might just solve a mystery or two while they’re at it! From the world-renowned Jim Henson Company, PBS KIDS and Paramount Home Entertainment, the Dinosaur Train: Eggstravaganza DVD includes eight exciting edu-tainment adventures and is packed with loads of special features including interactive games, colouring pages, a Dinosaur Reference Guide, information for parents and more.

Zackary was never very “into” dinosaurs, but Benjamin absolutely loves them and has quickly become a big fan of the Dinosaur Train series. He doesn’t understand much of the educational content yet, but he loves watching the different dinosaurs that are featured in the episodes!

My own favourite aspect of the show has always been its focus on the scientific method of reasoning: asking a question, researching, forming a hypothesis, testing it, drawing a conclusion and sharing the results. These six simple steps have been responsible for some of our society’s most incredible discoveries and I love that Dinosaur Train features it as the best method for answering questions in its episodes.

Dinosaur Train: Eggstravaganza has a run-time of approximately 100 minutes and features eight fun and informative episodes and some great bonus features. My boys both especially loved watching Dr. Scott the Palaeontologist talk about the dinosaurs in each episode after the show was over. And I have to admit, I liked that segment as much as my kids; it’s always so informative! Dinosaur Train Celebrates National Children’s Dental Health Month-Giveaway

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and to help encourage kids to take care of their smile, the beloved PBS children’s show Dinosaur Train is getting involved!

The learning starts with a special episode of the show, so tune into Dinosaur Train on March 1 on PBS KIDS to watch the T-Rex Teeth episode (check your local listings) and see Dr. Scott, the host of Dinosaur Train, tell us all about the teeth of the Tyrannosaurus and other carnivores like sharks. Both sharks and Tyrannosaurus’ lose their teeth, but those teeth are always replaced by new ones. Humans only get two sets of teeth so it’s important to take good care of them!

And to make the celebration even more fun, The Jim Henson Company is partnering with Sunstar Americas, Inc. to launch a brand new line of Dinosaur Train themed toothbrushes! I received a package of two toothbrushes to check out and both my children just loved them. As if the fun and vibrant Dinosaur Train design featuring Buddy and Shiny wasn’t cool enough, the toothbrushes also featured clever suction-cup bottoms. My boys had so much fun sticking the toothbrushes to the sink, the mirror and anywhere else they could dream up. And I loved how the suction cups kept the toothbrushes so handy!

Dinosaur Train: Dino Mighty Music DVD-Review and Giveaway

My boys aren’t as intrigued by dinosaurs as some children but they still enjoy the sensational PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train. And really, what’s not to love? Tons of neat dinosaur facts, themes of acceptance and exploration and, just for the vehicle lovers, a wonderful train to travel to different places! Top it all off with exciting adventures and some great music and you have a show that is sure to please.

My boys love music, so when I got the chance to review Dinosaur Train: Dino Mighty Music I couldn’t wait. The newest DVD in the Dinosaur Train collection consists of four episodes, each of which contain a great song that will have a child’s toes tapping as they learn. Here’s a brief synopsis:

Dinosaur Train embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while sparking an interest in life science, natural history and palaeontology.

Dinosaur Train: Dino-Mighty Music episodes include:

Valley of the Stygimolochs – Buddy wonders if he’ll grow horns when he gets older, so Mrs. Pteranodon takes him to visit some dinosaurs called Stygimoloch, who have really impressive horns.

I’m a T. Rex! – Buddy travels to Rexville on the Dinosaur Train and meets Delores Tyrannosaurus and her daughter Annie. When he sees that he shares all the same features, Buddy learns that he is a Tyrannosaurus Rex!

One Smart Dinosaur – Mrs. Pteranodon takes Buddy and Tiny to visit a Microraptor named Mikey. Microraptors were one of the smallest dinosaurs ever. Tiny is annoyed that Mikey is even smaller than she is, but Mikey looks up to Tiny as a role model.

Surprise Party – Shiny, Tiny and Don throw a surprise party for Buddy on the Dinosaur Train and invite a whole caboose full of his friends!

I love watching Dinosaur Train almost as much as my boys because I learn as much as they do. For example, I had no idea that there was a dinosaur for every single letter of the alphabet! Every episode featured one original song at some point in the story and the songs contained as much information as the show itself. Best of all, the fun grooving music had both boys bouncing along as they listened.

Dinosaur Train: Pteranodon Family World Tour Adventure DVD-Review and Giveaway

Like most little boys, Zackary really enjoys dinosaurs. While racecars are his first and greatest love, he does like to learn about other typical “boy” topics, and dinosaurs are always a popular choice. That’s one of the reasons he loves the popular PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train. When I was given a chance to review the newest DVD release of some of the most popular episodes, Dinosaur Train: Pteranodon Family World Tour Adventure, I knew Zackary would be thrilled. Here is a brief synopsis:

Dinosaur Train embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while sparking an interest in life science, natural history and palaeontology. Dinosaur Train: Pteranodon Family World Tour Adventure episodes include: Pteranodon Family World Tour, Gilbert the Junior Conductor, Confuciusornis Says, Tiny’s Tiny Doll, Iggy Iguanodon, Shiny Can’t Sleep, Kenny Kentrosaurus, and Don and the Troodons.

When the DVD arrived, Zackary wanted to sit down and watch it right away. The episodes focused on the adventures of the Pteranodon family as they went on a special world tour to meet other species of dinosaurs. One of the things that I love about Dinosaur Train is how much factual knowledge is contained within the episodes of the show. The DVD contains eight episodes and each one features a different species of dinosaur and its characteristics. Within the plotline of each story tons of fun facts are available, making the show as educational as it is entertaining!

In addition to the information about dinosaurs, other essential lessons like including others, helping your friends and keeping a positive attitude are prevalent throughout the series. Zackary, however, simply loves watching the fun-loving dinosaurs make new friends, have new adventures and solve new problems in each episode. Whether the Pteranodon family is trying to find a famous landmark (despite Dad’s directions) or helping Tiny to get to sleep without her favourite doll, the stories are so child-friendly and Zackary enjoys them all.

I really liked this DVD, and I found some of the information about the more obscure dinosaur species just as interesting as Zackary did. If your child is fascinated by dinosaurs, Dinosaur Train: Pteranodon Family World Tour Adventure is a great way to take their knowledge of these fascinating creatures beyond the Triceratops and the Tyrannosaurus.
