Celebrate the New Hot Wheels and Barbie Kinder Surprise with a Special Facebook Giveaway #KinderMom

When my oldest son was born, one of the first things he learned to do as he grew from an infant to a toddler was make the “vroom” noise of a car. At ten months old, Zackary couldn’t say “Momma,” but he could push around the Hot Wheels Twin Mill car that Santa had put in his stocking that year yelling “VROOOM! VROOM!” as he did. And so began my son’s love of cars, a love that he still has six years later.

At two years old, Zackary’s collection of Hot Wheels had grown to over 100 cars and not only could he tell interested parties the name of every single one, he could also tell people how the car had joined his collection. I have to admit, I didn’t even really know Hot Wheels cars had names until my son first asked me “What’s this one called?” and I turned it over to discover the tiny writing on the bottom.

Kinder Canada and Children’s Miracle Network-Sharing Joy Among Canadian Families #KinderMom

kinder canada joy to share bannerIt’s almost Easter and while my children’s heads are full of thoughts of the Easter Bunny and chocolate eggs, my thoughts are more of how lucky I am to have my two happy, healthy boys. I know not everyone is so lucky and that’s why I wanted to think of a way that I could share a little joy with someone that needed it. Finally I decided to take a case of Kinder eggs to the hospital emergency room just before Easter. My boys have been there on one or two occasions and I learned that a little treat really made the experience less scary, so I wanted to make sure other sick or hurt kids could have a better experience too!

The decision was inspired by Kinder Canada’s A Joy to Share campaign; I was so excited when I heard that Kinder Canada was partnering with the Children’s Miracle Network! I’ve been a supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network ever since I was a child myself and knowing that the makers of the chocolate my children adore support such a worthy organization just warms my heart.

In addition to a financial donation, Kinder Canada is helping to share some of the stories of the families that the Children’s Miracle Network has been or will be assisting in various ways. The Kinder Canada Facebook page now has a Miracle Kids section with stories from four Canadian moms with miracle children. You can share your own inspiring stories as well!

This Easter, take a minute to remember less fortunate families in Canada by supporting the A Joy to Share campaign! Whether you make a donation to Children’s Miracle Network or just stop by the Kinder Canada Facebook page to learn about some of the inspiring moms and kids sharing their stories this month, showing you care is easy! But be prepared, if you’re anything like me, you’ll need a big box of tissues beside you as you read about these Canadian moms! As parents, we know that life can’t always be perfect. But by supporting one another and helping to spread joy when we get the chance, every parent and every community benefits! Share some joy today with Kinder Canada and the Children’s Miracle Network!

Celebrate March Break with Family-Friendly Crafts and Kinder Canada! #KINDERMom

To my delight, I have once again been chosen as a Kinder Mom for 2012 and I am so excited about it! What I love about being a Kinder Mom is that I get the chance to share my fondness for playtime and my fondness for Kinder eggs with all my wonderful readers. And with March break almost here, it’s a great time to plan some extra playtime for your family!

craft suppliesHere in small-town Saskatchewan, March break is actually in February and runs through the week of Family Day, which means that Friday was the official start of “March break” for our household. I’m so excited to enjoy a week of fun with my boys and to get ready for the adventure, we spent the day stocking up on craft supplies so that we could enjoy plenty of creative playtime together over the next few days.

We started the activities today by decorating some wooden lion masks with markers and glitter. Tomorrow we’ll be trying our hand at melted crayon artwork. And on Sunday, we’re going to make our own Gak, that rubbery and slimy substance that no kid can resist. What I love about craft projects is that not only are they a chance for kids to express some creativity and originality, they are also a chance to bond together as a family.

If crafts aren’t your thing, though, there are lots of other fun options to make March break special. Why not head outdoors for a family hike or check out a local museum? Even cooking a favourite meal can help make spring break feel special.

When family time is done, there’s no better way to finish the fun than with a Kinder Surprise. My boys are such big fans of the chocolate treat with a toy inside. In fact, the whole family tends to agree that a Kinder Surprise is the perfect end to any activity! And because Kinder Canada knows how important family togetherness is, they are giving away $500 towards a family “staycation” on the Kinder Canada Facebook page! Just use the Kinder Moments application to frame one of your special memories and you’ll be automatically entered to win. And don’t forget to check out the amazing 2012 toy collection too; the clever new toys are guaranteed to add more fun to your day!

So this spring break, whether you’re going on a trip or enjoying all the comforts of home, make sure that you take the opportunity to bond with your kids and make some new memories. And don’t forget to showcase your favourite moments with the help of the Kinder Moments application for your chance to win $500 for your own ultimate “staycation” experience! With Kinder Canada and a little creativity, your family will be sure to have a March break that they’ll remember for years.

Celebrate Special Moment Big and Little with My Kinder Moments

One of the best things about a family adventure is looking back and reliving the moment afterwards. As a Kinder Mom, I’ve had the chance to share so much happiness with my kids and also share tips with my readers about some of the ways that my family adds play to our days, whether I’m exploring nature with my boys on a walk or letting them toss dirty, balled-up socks into the hamper in an impromptu game of basketball. And when the fun is over, my favourite post-play activity is looking through the pictures I took during our playtime and sharing the best ones with my family.

Kinder Moms-How Do You Make Time for Play?

Now that school season is in full swing, there is a lot less free time in most families. Work, school, extra-curricular activities, shorter days, colder weather…they all add up to one thing. Way less playtime. But playtime doesn’t have to be something that takes up a big chunk of your day. There are lots of ways to add some play to daily drives, chores, bedtimes…even mealtimes!

kids playingFor example, when Zackary is having a hard time settling down before bed, we play a game called Find the Penny. I simply take a few pennies and toss them onto the rumpled covers of his bed. Then he has to scramble around to find them as fast as he can.

Sometimes, to add a little extra challenge to the game, I’ll pretend to see pennies here and there and “accidentally” tickle him as I grab for them. This game could be even better in the morning if you happen to have a child that has trouble with alertness when they wake up, but that’s not a problem Zackary has!

Cleaning is something that makes nearly everyone drag their feet, so why not put a spring in your step by setting a timer and giving yourself and your kids ten minutes to complete each job. It makes the work seem much more fun, and it’s done faster too! When we “race clean,” as Zackary calls it, we always reward ourselves with a fun snack or a good book when we’re done.

Are the kids getting bored of sitting in the car while you run errands? Try making up a story with them by each taking turns telling one sentence (or word) of the story at a time. It can be so much fun to see where a story goes when it’s told this way, and it will also give you a valuable glimpse into the way your child’s mind works. I love how imaginative my son gets when we play this game!

At dinner, why not try a round of Hide and Seek? Hide a small object (a pea, a toothpick, whatever you like) somewhere on the table and let your children walk their fingers around on the table searching for it. Direct their roaming hands with “hot” and “cold” until they find the hidden object. Then, let them take a turn to hide an object.

Of course, nothing makes a fun little game better than a prize at the end, and there’s no better prize to make a day extra special than a Kinder Surprise! I like to hide one for each of my kids in the living room and then let them hunt for it. It’s like a little mini Easter hunt that we can enjoy any time of the year!

Ten lucky readers will win a Kinder Surprise gift basket worth $200! Visit the Kinder Canada Facebook page to enter for your chance to win and remember to check back often because Kinder Canada has many more amazing promotions and contents planned for the future!

Playtime can consist of long, involved activities, but it can just as easily consist of little tidbits of fun enjoyed throughout the day. Whether it’s a Kinder Surprise after school or a game of “I Spy” in a waiting room, don’t forget to help your child enjoy a little extra play in the busy fall months. Do you have a way of adding some play to your family’s busy day?
