It’s Time to Party, Canada! #TGCBB 2012

For the second year in a row Mommy Kat and Kids is participating in The Great Canadian Blog Bash! I love this chance to meet new Canadian bloggers and reconnect with some of my best bloggy friends right before Canada Day!

If you’re a newcomer to my site, welcome! My name is Kathryn and I am the energetic and cheerful owner, editor and head writer here at Mommy Kat and Kids.

I was born and raised in a small town on the Saskatchewan prairies and while life in a small town has its ups and downs, overall Lumsden is a pretty wonderful place to live.

Of course, the gorgeous scenery we have down here in the Qu’Appelle Valley doesn’t hurt either!

Did you know that Saskatchewan was once a part of the Northwest Territories? And it was originally settled when the Queen offered free land to anyone that would come and farm on the prairies.

People came from all over Europe, the United States and other parts of Canada to claim their “free land” and Saskatchewan has a very diverse ethnic background as a result.

Saskatchewan is also a province of viciously cold winters and absurdly hot summers and I sometimes think back on the first founders of my province with pride because to live here, a person would have to either be impossibly stubborn or a little bit crazy. And both of those probably describe me pretty well!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. I learned that Norwex was created in Norway in 1994 shortly after microgiber was first made in sweden.

  2. I’m from Northern Alberta and this weekend we are celebrating my towns 100th anniversary! It’s been alot of fun so far :D

  3. Positively Pampered Patty

A big, Mardi Gras-like celebration takes place every year in Quebec. The event brings many tourists to the area, and it is also a big event with the locals. The event was created to liven up the people during dead of the winter. The event takes place in February similar to the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans. We have the biggest winter carnival in the world!

  4. Saskatchewan is home to veggies, bevvies, bunnyhugs, perogies, sauerkraut, and the Riders!! Also, most people here call lunch=dinner and dinner=supper.

  5. I live on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster, Canada’s only border city. In August we cross the highway and will be moving to the Alberta side of Lloydminster. I can look out my front window and see the Coop Grocery store which is on the Alberta side. Our claim-to-fame is our huge border marker’s; huge orange surveyor’s markers that shows where Alberta and Saskatchewan divide our city.
