It’s Time to Party, Canada! #TGCBB 2012

For the second year in a row Mommy Kat and Kids is participating in The Great Canadian Blog Bash! I love this chance to meet new Canadian bloggers and reconnect with some of my best bloggy friends right before Canada Day!

If you’re a newcomer to my site, welcome! My name is Kathryn and I am the energetic and cheerful owner, editor and head writer here at Mommy Kat and Kids.

I was born and raised in a small town on the Saskatchewan prairies and while life in a small town has its ups and downs, overall Lumsden is a pretty wonderful place to live.

Of course, the gorgeous scenery we have down here in the Qu’Appelle Valley doesn’t hurt either!

Did you know that Saskatchewan was once a part of the Northwest Territories? And it was originally settled when the Queen offered free land to anyone that would come and farm on the prairies.

People came from all over Europe, the United States and other parts of Canada to claim their “free land” and Saskatchewan has a very diverse ethnic background as a result.

Saskatchewan is also a province of viciously cold winters and absurdly hot summers and I sometimes think back on the first founders of my province with pride because to live here, a person would have to either be impossibly stubborn or a little bit crazy. And both of those probably describe me pretty well!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. I call ‘Beautiful BC’ my home. Vancouver Island is a wonderful Island with many different areas to visit.

  2. Remember that 1964 animated made-for-TV movie “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”? It was filmed in Japan, but the soundtrack was recorded in Ontario (Toronto) so most of the singing/speaking cast were Canadian. :)

  3. I’m from Winnipeg “Slurpee Capital of the World”, which technically is a city and not province fun fact but I don’t know any Manitoba fun facts!

  4. Thank you for this giveaway. I love Norwex products. One fact is The silver antibacterial fiber has self purification properties.

  5. This is what I found on Canada Cool (http://www.canadacool.com/COOLFACTS/ALBERTA/BanffOverpass.html)
    And because I Love Banff…

Overpasses, a 2.4-metre tall highway fence and 22 underpasses have reduced wildlife road kill and collisions by more than 80 per cent. The overpasses are designed so animals cannot see the highway when crossing. Elk, moose, wolves, deer and grizzly bear tend to use the overpasses. Cougars and black bears like the underground passages.

Where: Banff National Park, which covers 6,661 square kilometers of mountains, glaciers, meadows, rivers and hot springs, receives 4.7 million visitors per year. When established in 1885, it was the world’s third National Park. It is one hour west of Calgary.

  6. The opening scene in the original Superman was filmed in Barons, Alberta. When he runs faster than the train and kicks the football!
