Fondue has to be one of the most fun dessert experiences ever created. Succulent fresh fruit and cubes of cake dipped into dreamy melted chocolate…who could say no to that? And in addition to being absolutely delicious, fondue is a great social experience; a chance for friends and family to gather around a collective serving dish and enjoy laughter and conversation as they indulge.
But fondue can also be time-consuming to prepare and a little dangerous to serve. First the chocolate mixture has to be prepared at just the right temperature to prevent scorching and then the fondue pot is placed over an open flame to keep it warm. It makes the dish great for special occasions but not so great for younger children or for quick desserts.
Now Velata is changing that with fondue that is easy to prepare and safe even for young children. The system starts with the warmer: the microwave safe, dishwasher safe silicone fondue dish is placed over a ceramic warmer that uses a 25-watt light bulb to keep the chocolate at the perfect temperature. It’s safe and adds great ambience to the dessert thanks to the stylish look of the warmer. After plugging the warmer into an outlet and turning it on, we were ready for the fondue.
The Velata fondue comes in Milk Chocolate, White Chocolate, Caramel Chocolate and Dark Chocolate varieties and instead of requiring a lengthy preparation, I simply had to microwave the bag for one minute, knead it gently until it was completely smooth and then pour the fondue into the dish with the convenient spout. After placing a dish of fruit I had cut into bite-sized pieces earlier, we were ready to eat!
The boys had so much fun using the forks to dip chunks of pineapple and banana into the chocolate and I loved watching them try to pop the pieces into their mouths without letting the chocolate drip too much. Of course, they didn’t have much success and there was chocolate everywhere by the time we were done, but it sure was a fun way to spend the evening anyways!
