March has to be one of the most difficult months to stay active and eat right. After long days of winter, the only thought in the minds of most parents is when the snow will melt, the sun will shine and the stores will be filled with fresh, flavourful fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, in most parts of the country, those days of playing at the park or whipping up a salad with the spring crop of lettuce are still weeks away. So how can we make sure our families are eating right and exercising?
Get Gaming
It can be hard to find ways to get kids active after a long winter of cold outdoor play. If your children have lost their passion for skiing or sledding, turn on the Wii or Xbox Kinect, break out your favourite sport or dance game and get moving! And if you’re not a fan of video games, then just crank up a CD the whole family enjoys and hold a dance party in the living room!
Eat Seasonally
While March is still too early for most seasonal delights, there are a few foods that, depending on your location, are at their best this month! Asparagus, which is high in fibre and a good source of iron, and rhubarb, which is rich in calcium and Vitamin C, are available locally in many parts of Canada. And green onions, carrots, fennel and kumquats are at their best this month, so stock up! If you still feel like you’re not getting enough fruits and vegetables, Adult Essentials Fibre gummies will help you make sure that you’re meeting your daily fibre requirement anyways!
Boost Your Immunity
As soon as the weather starts to warm up even a few degrees, kids and adults are both tempted to strip off coats and toques and head out to enjoy the sunshine. But even though zero degrees might feel warm after winter’s chill, it’s not t-shirt weather yet! Make sure every family member keeps their immune systems strong with a daily vitamin like Adult Essentials Gummies Multi-Vitamins and IronKids Gummies Multi-Vitamins. The best part is that since the gummies are so delicious, you’re sure to remember to take them every day!
March may hearken in the first day of spring but it really isn’t the most pleasant month for most of Canada. Fortunately, that doesn’t mean that your family can’t still eat well and get their exercise until the snow is gone for good. So get creative, check out a few seasonal delicacies and hang in there! Spring really is just around the corner!
I should get these for my hubby. He has been known to take kid vitamins because he likes the gummies!
Tee hee! That is exactly why I take them, Viv! If I didn’t, I’d end up eating all the boys’ ones instead! Lol
So excited that garden season is here, I find it so hard to eat healthy in the cold months.
YES!!! Me too, Tammy; the quality of our diet goes up a lot when I can get those veggies growing out back!
I wish the PS3 Move had more choices for kids, its not like the other ones that have tons of options for little ones. My kids sure do love those gummies!
Me too, Jen!! I always kind of considered the Wii to be a kids’ system, the PS3 to be the serious adult gamer system and the Xbox to be the poor overlooked middle child. But with all the family-friendly titles and that Kinect feature, I’m starting to become an Xbox convert!
You are set for the year! Love the tips, especially eating seasonally.
That’s one of my faves too, Erika! I just wish this snow would melt so I could get at that tasty rhubarb that will be popping up in the back yard! Lol
Such great tips, Kathryn! We love Adult Essentials too!!
I am not a happy camper when my Adult Essentials run out! Lol Thank goodness I won’t have to worry about that for a while!
I love asparagus – one of my favorite veggies! We are fans of AE and Iron Kids in our household!
Mine too, and it’s one Saskatchewan grows really well! Fresh veggies are the best! (As good as gummy vitamins! Lol)
Great post Kat! We are loving our Adult Essential samples from BlogWest! Yummy! You sort of have to stop eating them because they taste like candy! lol! Angie xo
I have that same problem, Angie! I have to hide them away from myself! Lol
Those gummies really are delicious.
Don’t forget PS3 Move (comparable to the Wii and Kinnect)
They are, aren’t they? I didn’t forget the Move. Lol Just don’t have one, haven’t used one and like to speak from experience. ;)
