Dairy Queen is one of those restaurants that tends to make me feel instantly nostalgic. I think it’s because, as a child, I knew as soon as I entered a Dairy Queen I was going to get to enjoy a delicious ice cream treat. Even if my family had stopped there for lunch, going to Dairy Queen and not getting ice cream simply wasn’t an option! As a result, walking into Dairy Queen results in a flood of memories for me. I used to love ordering a Kids Meal, which came with my choice of DQ treat for dessert. (I always chose the ice cream sandwich.) And when I was in high school, every band trip involved at least one stop at Dairy Queen. My all-time favourite indulgence on those occasions was a hot fudge sundae made with mint chip ice cream.
Of course, one of the most memorable items on the Dairy Queen menu is the DQ Ice Cream Cake! With a birthday in January, I didn’t really get to enjoy these for my birthday, unlike my brother, with a birthday in October and my sister, who was born in June. So as an adult, I have to admit that I sometimes buy DQ Ice Cream Cake for my birthday just because I can!
I can’t wait to head to Dairy Queen this summer with my boys and this year, General Mills is making that easier than ever with a fabulous new partnership! In specially marked boxes of General Mills cereal, you’ll find not one but TWO Dairy Queen coupons worth a total of eight dollars! From April 1-July 31, 2013, enjoy an small Orange Julius Original or Premium Fruit Smoothie beverage and from June 1-June 30, 2013, get a free small Blizzard treat! And now that all Dairy Queen locations in Canada offer Orange Julius, you can redeem both coupons on the same delicious trip!
I received a gift card and three specially marked boxes of General Mills cereal so that my boys and I could enjoy some fun at Dairy Queen and while the freezing temperatures in Saskatchewan mean that we haven’t made a trip yet, we’re bound to get some warmer weather sometime soon! As soon as we do, I’ll be indulging in my favourite Oreo Blizzard and letting the boys pick out a favourite ice cream treat so that we can start our own family tradition. Check out the Life Made Delicious Facebook page for details on this special promotion and make sure to keep an eye out for specially-marked boxes of General Mills cereal so you can head to Dairy Queen for some tasty treats with your loved ones!

yeah I wonder if it will ever melt in SK , still waiting for the snow to go, but with the wind we have today and the rain yesterday, its melting
Isn’t this the worst spring ever? I’ve never been so excited to see the small patch of grass we finally have on our lawn! Lol
longest winter ever, at any rate (Although as I get older, I swear the winters seem longer)
Do you remember those plastic silver coins that used to come with the combos? I think they were good for one free sundae. I’d gobble down my meal and then run back up to the till with my plastic silver sundae coin to get my dessert. :)
I do! I actually remember occasionally getting them when they were handed out at parades in Regina, and it was always SO exciting saving it for our next trip! :)
the banana split is the best
Me, I’m all about the hot fudge, which is why I stick with the sundaes! :)
