I love classical music and when Zackary was a baby I often used to put on some of my favourite tracks for the two of us to enjoy. While the boys have amassed a large collection of kids’ music, I love to take them outside of their comfort zone with more unexpected music choices. Listen to the Birds promised to do just that with various classical music tracks and stories about the birds that inspired the melodies.
I hadn’t realized until receiving this book just how many pieces of music had been inspired by birdsong. From the soaring lark to the goldfinch, the different melodies of the birds provided inspiration to composers that resulted in gorgeous and timeless musical scores. The boys liked the fanciful illustrations in the book, I loved reading about the different birds and all three of us enjoyed the music itself, which we played while flipping through the pages.
To help you welcome your child to classical music, The Secret Mountain is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader their own Listen to the Birds: An Introduction to Classical Music storybook and CD set, a $23 value! This set was a fun and relaxing way to expose my boys to the work of some of the most renowned composers of all time including Schubert, Handel and Tchaikovsky.
