Today is Sunscreen Protection Day and I have to admit that as much as I understand the importance of sun safety, I am leery about some commercial sunscreens. I don’t like exposing my boys to harsh chemicals any more than I have to and since there are great natural sunscreens available, I prefer using them when possible. So when I learned that Banana Boat had a brand new naturally sourced sunscreen available, I was thrilled. I recently got the chance to be one of the first in Canada to test out new Banana Boat Natural Reflect Kids sunscreen and since the boys and I were getting ready to jet off to sunny California, the timing couldn’t have been better.
The weather in California was just as warm and wonderful as I could have hoped for and I knew we’d be making good use of the sunscreen on the trip. The boys actually use less than I do for the most part since their t-shirts and wide-brimmed hats just leave their arms and legs exposed to the sun. Since I prefer tank tops, my shoulders tend to get a lot of sun in the course of a day and I actually forgot my sunscreen and burned them a bit on our first day in Disneyland! After that, I made sure to apply our sunscreen every morning before we left the hotel.
The Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen uses zinc and titanium to protect skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and as far as the texture and consistency of the sunscreen, I found it to be very similar to most other sunscreens I’ve tried. It was thick, creamy and took a little extra rubbing to absorb into skin without leaving white residue behind but once it had absorbed completely, it left my skin feeling smooth and not overly sticky, which is always a plus for me. And after spending the next few hours in the afternoon sun, I was delighted to see that the boys’ arms and my quick-to-burn shoulders hadn’t gotten red at all. The sunscreen provided great gentle protection all without parabens, PABA and oxybenzone!
If you’d love to be one of the first to try the new Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunscreen and share your thoughts with the rest of Canada, you’re in luck! I *have* to wear sunscreen or I get serious burns!
When I know that I’ll be outdoors for a long time then I wear sunscreen.
I wear it the first few times I go out in the summer, and If I plan to be out for a long time like at the beach
my facial lotion is SPF15 that I use everyday
i wear sunscreen in the summer, if i’m at the beach or outside all day.
i’m bad for not wearing it when outside for shorter periods of time.
I wear it on my face….but sometimes forget my legs, arms, shoulders and back.
I always wear sunscreen, rain or shine, until it is totally dark out. I love Banana Boat it is my fav! I got too much sun when younger, living on a sailboat, and have been trying to be careful. I wear a hat, too, and make them, so it’s fun! I keep a tube of Banana Boat with me at all times and reapply regularly. I try to get other ppl into using sunscreen faithfully, too, and offer mine to them to try it!
I wear it daily on my face. I am horrible about wearing it on my body. I do, if I am spending time on the water or long periods of time outside.
Yes, everyday, a must in our house! Even myself, it’s in my makeup and I apply more
I always have some sunscreen on because its in my foundation but if I’m out for longer periods in the sun I definitely lather it on.
