Refreshment Comes Naturally with Mighty Leaf Iced Tea-Giveaway

July 16, 2013 by Kathryn 161 Comments

There is nothing better than a cold and refreshing glass of iced tea on a hot summer day, but as much as I love iced tea, it’s something I rarely buy. Premixed iced tea is full of sugar and powdered mixes are no better. I’ve tried making iced tea from scratch but I never really got results that I liked.

This year, Mighty Leaf Tea, a company that specializes in creating one-of-a-kind handmade whole-leaf tea blends in hand-stitched silken pouches, came to my rescue with its delicious Gourmet Iced Tea Set and I couldn’t wait to try it. The Mighty Leaf Iced Tea is available in four thirst-quenching flavours: Organic Black, Calypso Mango, Ginger Peach and Sunburst Green. I wanted to keep things simple at first so I decided to start by making the Organic Black variety.

What I really liked about the set I received was that figuring out the proper measurements was so easy thanks to the Japanese-style Takeya pitcher. The tea bags are oversized so that one bag makes a perfect pitcher of iced tea and have a long, woven string so that they are easy to remove after the tea has steeped. I simply boiled some water, filled my pitcher half-full, dropped in the teabag and waited four to five minutes so that the tea could reach the perfect strength.

Then I pulled out the teabag, added ice until the pitcher was full and just like that, the tea was icy cold and ready to sweeten to taste. I liked the fact that I could use sugar, honey, stevia or any other sweetener I liked to create the perfect glass of iced tea. In the United States, that would be enough to create a traditional glass of iced tea but here in Canada, we tend to prefer a bit of tang to our beverage! I added about four tablespoons of lemon juice to the pitcher to get that refreshing kick that I love about iced tea.

The finished product was delicious and had a fresh, natural flavour I absolutely loved. The boys enjoyed the beverage just as much and since I don’t often let them have sugary drinks, it was a perfect compromise when they wanted a cold drink on a hot day. And when we wanted to take our iced tea out of the house, the Takeya glass bottle made it easy and kept our drink cold for longer. We also loved adding a mix of ice cubes and frozen fruit to the iced tea for an even tastier drink. Ginger Peach Iced Tea with frozen strawberries and peaches was absolutely delicious!

mighty leaf iced tea prize pack

Mighty Leaf Tea wants to help you indulge in a little summer refreshment, so the company is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader their own Gourmet Iced Tea Prize Pack containing a Takeya pitcher and glass bottle and all four flavours of Mighty Leaf Iced Tea, a $60 value! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about which variety of Mighty Leaf Iced Tea you would most like to try. And as if that wasn’t enough, Mighty Leaf Tea has a special coupon code offer everyone can enjoy right now! From now until August 15, 2013, use coupon code BCDIYIT to save 15% on all tea pouches, loose tea and iced tea!

We have now tried all of the varieties of Mighty Leaf Iced Tea and while the Calypso Mango is my favourite for its refreshing tropical flavour, I also really liked the Sunburst Green, which was the one flavour I had expected to not enjoy very much. With some honey and lemon, it’s tasty and refreshing and doesn’t have the overly grassy taste I tend to dislike in most green tea. For anyone that loves iced tea, Mighty Leaf Tea varieties are a great choice. Natural, simple and delicious, this iced tea is everything you want in a summer beverage!
