Though my oldest son isn’t quite at the age of having a cell phone yet, I know that the time for him to own one will sneak up on me quickly. I also know from the horror stories told to me that chances are good my energetic son will likely lose, drop, break or maim his phone in some way. After all, it even happens to adults fairly regularly!
I have no intention of repeatedly spending a few hundred dollars so my son can own the latest smartphone and recently, a new company has come up with a smartphone that’s perfect for teens, collage students and anyone that wants to stick to a budget without giving up the features a smartphone provides. Huawei offers feature-packed Android smartphone models with a retail value of just eighty dollars each! I received the Huawei Ascend Y210 to review and I was very curious to see how it compared to my current Samsung Galaxy SIII.
The phone had a sleek and modern design that was similar to the iPhone in size and thickness. The back cover was simple black plastic so to ensure extra durability, I would definitely want to purchase a case for the device. I powered it up and started playing with some of the features to see how the phone responded.
The touchscreen was intuitive to use and responded in a manner that was very similar to my current phone. I did notice that loading apps and functions was slightly slower. Also, since the phone has a lower price point, it has an understandably smaller internal memory. A micro SD card is a must for this device for anyone that wants to install apps and play games.
The phone includes a 2.0 MP camera and while it takes passable pictures for quick Instagram and Twitter updates, it’s definitely of a lower quality than a top-end smartphone camera. Still, I was able to take a few decent photos and post them online all with a phone that costs less than $100!
Huawei wants to give you the chance to test out one of its reasonably-priced smartphones too, so the company is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader the Huawei Ascend Y201 smartphone! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about whether you or your child has ever had a smartphone disaster.
While there are some noticeable benefits to my higher-end phone, considering the price point the Huawei smartphones are an absolute steal. With all the standard Google features including email syncing, GPS positioning with Google Maps and access to the Google Play Store, the phone I received can perform any action that I need. The Huawei Ascend Y210 is available at Walmart locations nationwide on the Telus network and the Huawei Ascend Y201 is available at Virgin Mobile and partner retail locations, so if you’re on a budget or need a phone for a roughhousing teen, come see how inexpensive a decent smartphone can be!

No only my husbands flew off his belt clip into the lake
Not a smartphone disaster but did put a regular cell phone through the snow blower!
nothing yet. thanks
I never dropped my phone in the toilet, yet lol. The only thing that happened was my brand new iPhone 4S a while after I got it, got some kind of a glitch. I thought it was from me dropping it or something but I brought it back to Apple and they said it was a glitch and would be replaced at no cost! Thank god.
