Finding new children’s music is always a treat for me. My boys and I have many tried and true favourites when it comes to children’s musicians and each of my kids has a CD player in the bedroom with a stack of discs beside it. But it’s been some time since we discovered a new singer that got the boys and me both grooving. So when Mariana Iranzi, a professional bassist and educator from Argentina, offered me the chance to review her new CD, I couldn’t resist.
Hola Hello is an upbeat collection of thirteen songs with great kid-friendly content and a blend of Spanish and English lyrics that I absolutely loved. Finding diversity in children’s music isn’t difficult; CDs often contains a variety of styles and sounds to keep kids interested. But what made this CD extra special is the way it took that concept to a new level by introducing another language. And as an added bonus, hearing other languages is thought to help increase a child’s general proficiency with language in later years.
The songs themselves were mostly upbeat with a few slower ballads as well. The music was very melodic which meant even the fully Spanish songs were enjoyable listening for the boys. I loved the slower songs especially for their exotic feel and captivating melodies. My boys, as usual, loved the higher energy songs, but to my surprise they actually tended to favour the songs that were almost entirely Spanish!
To help you introduce some new music into your child’s life, Mariana Iranzi is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader their own copy of Hola Hello! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about whether your children have been introduced to other languages yet.
Hola Hello is a great way of exposing children to music with a different style and feel than the standard children’s music and the blend of languages is sure to increase its appeal.
