Movie Night with the Family Just Got Epic

Recently while I was on a business trip, my oldest son and his cousin went to the movie theatre to watch the new animated feature from the creators of Ice Age and Rio, Epic. Zackary couldn’t stop talking about the movie afterwards and after his colourful descriptions I have to admit that I was rather excited to see it for myself. Luckily, the movie was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD and I was delighted when I received a copy to review. Here’s a brief synopsis:

epic blu-ray coverA teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil is taking place. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world — and ours.

I have to admit that I am a huge fan of fantasy fiction, so the plotline of this movie was immediately one that had me intrigued. With faerie folk of all varieties and a teenage heroine on a mission, it was a movie that had plenty of fun moments for my boys and a plot that was complex enough to keep me entertained too. Finding movies that all three of us like is difficult, but Epic was perfect for our family.

There were some moments of sorrow when Queen Tara died, especially since my boys have always been sensitive to scenes of death, but there were no excessively scary moments that made the movie inappropriate for them in any way and I love hearing the way they described the plot to one another and acted it out afterwards. It definitely inspired their imaginations and is a movie that we’ve watched more than once since receiving it!

Epic is available on Blu-ray and DVD right now, so check your local retailer or shop online to pick up this movie for your next family movie night. And if you haven’t already, make sure to enter to win Epic on Blu-ray right here on the site! Your family will love being swept away by the magic as Leafmen battle Boggans and an ordinary girl helps save a kingdom from evil.
