We all know somebody that’s just an all-around great person. Living in a small town, there’s no shortage of kind and caring people in my life, but my neighbours Bill and Joan are two of those people that just stand out as being wonderful. They’re always willing to help out others and often go out of their way to make a person’s day a little brighter. For example, every Halloween they make special treat bags filled with toys and candy especially for Zackary and Benjamin. There’s no doubt that they’re Good Eggs!
Egg Farmers of Canada is celebrating other Good Eggs around the country this month and sharing their stories. One #GoodEgg they know is Wendy Burns. The Burns family are 7th generation egg farmers from Prince Edward Island. Wendy and her husband Nathan take great pride in producing fresh, local high-quality eggs for their community. With four children – Mallory, Kendall, Mitchell and Shelby, there is always something going on at the Burns farm!

Tyler Welker is a #GoodEgg. The first in his family to attend and accomplish post-secondary education and aspiring to become a teacher, Tyler has never forgotten where he has come from; a small town east of Toronto. Although he is struggling with mountains of debt, his passion for giving emanates from him and is felt by those in the communities where he works. Last year, Tyler organized and facilitated a hockey equipment fundraiser, as the children he worked with in a remote northern community of Ontario had no means to purchase even a pair of skates. As the arena sat empty on Saturday mornings, Tyler knew that something needed to be done. Using his connections with local hockey back home, Tyler was able to ship over 500 pieces of hockey equipment to children in need. After the event, I asked Tyler what his favourite part of the experience was and he simply stated “watching a child step on to the ice for the first time with their new skates”. Tyler Welker is an inspiration to myself, a role model for young adults, and definitely a #GoodEgg !
