I enjoy watching movies, more so when it’s a title I’ve never heard of and turns out to be a hidden gem. But on some nights the prospect of sitting down to a three hour opus is just far too daunting. A guy needs a mental break every so often! Thankfully, the latest release from MTV Films and Paramount, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, fits the bill to a T!
Now fair warning: if you’re the type whose face scrunches up at the mere mention of crass humour then immediately stop reading this review and head straight for a classic rerun of Smith & Smith. For everyone else, be prepared for some serious laughs and cringe-worthy moments. A brief overview of the movie:
Jackass ringleader Johnny Knoxville reprises his role as 86-year-old Irving Zisman in the story of a crotchety old man unexpectedly saddled with the care of his 8-year-old grandson, Billy (Jackson Nicoll). The two generations of troublemakers soon develop a bond, as they hustle their way across the heartland of America pursuing hijinks and pulling pranks on unsuspecting, real-life people—all of whom had no idea they were starring in a hidden camera film and “one of the sharpest comedies of the year.”
The movie consists of a series of gags and sketches as Grandpa is given the task of returning his grandson to his estranged father. From getting intimate with a vending machine to crashing through a store window to running over signs, real people’s expressions and reactions are taped and added to the plot line. My favourite moment was when Grandpa enters Billy into a child beauty pageant by dressing him as a little girl. Anyone that has shaken their head at these pageants will smile at seeing the havoc Grandpa and Billy cause.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is available on January 28, 2014 in an Unrated Edition Blu-Ray Combo Pack, with even more outrageous footage and a behind-the-scenes look at how the film was made. Pre-order your copy online today or grab it at your nearest movie retailar this Monday; just make sure the kids are asleep before you start watching!
