I am a big believer in the importance of vitamin D and during the warm summer months, my boys and I get enough of it simply by spending time outside. But when the weather turns chilly, Saskatchewan simply doesn’t get enough sunlight for a person to be able to get an optimal amount of vitamin D. And since “the sunshine vitamin” is essential for the formation, growth and repair of bones, helps regulate the immune system and may even help protect from radiation damage, getting enough is always a good move!
Now, Kellogg’s Canada is making it easier than ever for Canadians to get their daily dose of D! Favourite Kellogg’s cereals including Fruit Loops, Rice Krispies, Corn Pops and Frosted Flakes are now fortified with vitamin D. In fact, each bowl contains 20% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin D, so even when the sun isn’t shining, you’ll start the day with the vitamin D your body needs!
We received the new fortified cereals to try out along with a very cool Soleil alarm clock. My boys were so excited to see some of their favourite cereals arrive at the house and devoured their breakfast for the next few weeks. Sugary cereals aren’t something that I buy all the time, but every once in a while they make a nice treat. And Rice Krispies are always a favourite cereal for both my boys and me, so I appreciated that my boys could now get vitamin D along with whole grain and other essential nutrients every time they had a bowl of cereal!
If you’d like to try these tasty cereals enriched with vitamin D, you’re in luck! Kellogg’s is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader a prize pack containing all four of the Kellogg’s cereals with added vitamin D. To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about which of these four cereals is your favourite.
I’ve noticed that not getting enough Vitamin D always has me feeling more lethargic during the dreary winter months, so I actually take a daily vitamin D supplement to ensure that I’m getting enough. And now my boys can easily get fueled up for the day as well thanks to Kellogg’s! Try the new vitamin-D enriched cereals for yourself and see what you think of them!
