If you or somebody in your family is gluten intolerant, cooking a quick and delicious meal becomes more of a challenge. But luckily, more and more companies are striving to provide gluten-free alternatives to traditional wheat-based products. Pasta is one of those foods that I can’t ever imagine giving up, even though I personally don’t eat a whole lot of wheat-based products overall. So I was pretty excited to hear about the new Barilla Gluten Free Pasta and couldn’t wait to give it a try.
I received an assortment of Barilla Gluten Free Pasta products and some fun Barilla accessories to review. I appreciated that Barilla is offering so many different varieties of pasta in a gluten-free version. And as if that isn’t awesome enough, the company has a fabulous collection of Gluten Free recipes too. Personally, I can’t wait to try this delicious-looking Barilla Gluten Free Rotini with Sauteed Summer Vegetables!
I eventually decided to make a simple spaghetti and meat sauce as my first meal using the gluten-free pasta though, since I knew it was something both my boys would love. The pasta cooked up exactly the same as traditional Barilla spaghetti and I didn’t notice any difference in the texture either. Both my boys devoured the meal and neither one had any idea that the spaghetti was different from the variety we usually ate. In fact, my oldest son even had a friend over for dinner that day and she loved the spaghetti and meat sauce too!
With my boys, there are always leftovers, and so I have to admit I was also curious about how the pasta would taste the next day. One of my friends has a daughter with food sensitivities and she had once told me about cooking up gluten-free pasta for a cold pasta salad only to find the next day that the noodles had hardened and become inedible. Fortunately, Barilla has mastered its gluten-free recipe because when I warmed up a plate of spaghetti for lunch the next day, the pasta was tender and delicious. In fact, I actually found it tasted fresher and tastier than regular leftover pasta generally does!
As far as taste and texture, Barilla Gluten Free Pasta is a great choice for anyone that has gluten sensitivities but still wants to enjoy a hearty pasta meal. Since I have extended family with food sensitivities, knowing I can still whip up my favourite go-to meal when loved ones are visiting is great news for me! If you or somebody in your family doesn’t eat gluten, give this pasta a try. You’ll love how easy Barilla makes enjoying your favourite pasta dish even when you’re eating gluten-free!
