Father’s Day Books for Dads and their Kids from Scholastic Canada

June 13, 2014 by Kathryn 22 Comments

Father’s Day is this weekend and Scholastic Canada is celebrating with some great books that illustrate that special bond between a dad and his kids. I received a few of Scholastic Canada’s newest books featuring dear old dad to review and they are a great choice for little ones this Father’s Day!

Mighty Dads by Joan Holub is a great choice for boys since it features loveable construction vehicle characters. Illustrated by James Dean, the creator of Pete the Cat, this book’s inspirational story about the ways fathers share life lessons with their children is sure to make Dad smile. And kids will love the message that no matter where their talents lie, their dads are proud of them!

My Dinosaur Dad by Ruth Paul is a great choice for parents to read to younger children. The dinosaurs illustrate all the different characteristics of dads everywhere, and the sound effects added to each page will have kids growling and wheezing along as you read. A short and simple story perfect for a preschool child, My Dinosaur Dad is a sweet reminder that the best dad of all is the dad that’s yours!

And if the gift Dad would like best of all is a little relaxation, keep kids occupied with the hugely popular Ricky Ricotta’s Might Robot series, recently re-released with all-new full colour illustrations from Dan Santat! These books are perfect first chapter books for school-aged children (boys especially) and are so engaging that Dad will be able to enjoy hours of peace and quiet while kids are happily reading away!

Scholastic Canada has so many fabulous picture books and chapter books for every occasion and Father’s Day is no exception, so pick up a few fun books about dads for your husband and children to enjoy together this weekend. And don’t forget to stock up on children’s books for the upcoming summer break too. Dad and the kids will both be happy you did!

Reading is so important. It is a great way for fathers to connect with their child in a safe, non-threatening situation.

I love Scholastic books. I remember how exciting it was when the Book Fair came around to my school, and I got to choose a few books each time. I shared the excitement of reading with my kids, and now my baby grand-daughter loves books, too!
