My boys have been fans of the HEXBUG product line since the brand first released the adorable HEXBUG Nano micro robotic creatures, little critters powered by vibration technology that raced around elaborate tracks. Since then, we’ve discovered some of the other great HEXBUG products and now, just in time for the holidays, HEXBUG has a new line of toys that any child would love to see under the tree.
The HEXBUG VEX Robotics collection is a set of building kits designed to introduce kids to science, technology, engineering and mathematics principles in a fun and interactive way. The robotic creatures snap together without the use of tools and the interactive technology used in the robots let children experiment with various programming patterns to help encourage STEM learning.
I received the HEXBUG VEX Robotics Strandbeast kit so that I could see for myself what these kits are like, and I was so impressed by the detail that went into creating this robotics kit. The Strandbeast features over 400 snap-together pieces, so just assembling the kit will keep a child occupied for quite a long time. Then the technology that goes into the creature’s body lets the fun and learning continue.
Two IR sensors detect objects once installed so that the robot turns automatically before crashing into an item. And the electronic brain of the Strandbeast features a set of switches with 64 possible combinations so that kids can program different reactions by flipping switches in the brain. A remote control lets children move the robot around based on the patterns they’ve programmed. Best of all, the kit is cross-compatible will all the other HEXBUG VEX Robotics kits, so older children that really want to get creative can even combine kits to build their own creatures!
HEXBUG VEX Robotics kits are available at stores across North America and combine education and fun in such a clever and creative way. Get one for your child this Christmas and inspire a love of science and technology that will last a lifetime!
