I’ve always had a hard time shopping for my dad. He never requests a specific gift and being over eighty, he seems to have everything he wants already. To top it off, his reaction to any gift is pretty mellow so even when I’m sure I’ve found something that he’ll love, it’s hard to know whether he really liked my choice or not! That’s why this year, instead of buying something new, I’ll be taking a tip from Church & Dwight and sticking to something I know my dad will love. By sprucing up his most prized possessions to make them as good as new, I can be sure he’ll have a happy Father’s Day!
Wondering how to make that happen? Try refreshing dad’s favourite things from the good ol’ days. This means restoring his lucky baseball cap or the colours on his old sports team jersey to bring him back to that championship game. Or try cleaning up his favourite childhood toy and let the memories pour in.
OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover is perfect for both favourite clothes and fabric upholstery. For soft surface stains, simply mix one scoop with water to remove excess stain before treating. Apply only enough solution to saturate the stain and allow the solution to stand for 1-5 minutes. Blot with a white towel and repeat until the stain is not visible. Then, rinse with clean water and blot until dry. For tough laundry stains, mix 2-4 scoops per 3.8L of water and submerge the stained items into the solution after dissolved. Soak the garment for 1-6 hours depending on the severity of the stain, then wash as normal.
And while you’re in the spirit of polishing up his most treasured items, consider dusting off an old photo of him with his friends and family or a trophy he’s proud of, and framing it for display. Nostalgia can be a powerful force, so don’t underestimate how sentimental a father can be! Simple gestures like these will go a long way and bring him back to his fondest moments.
Personally, I’m going to tackle the task of reviving some of my dad’s old baseball caps. His collection is extensive and features some great vintage logos from the RCMP, CP Rail and many other iconic Canadian companies. After years of use the hats are looking a little worse for wear, so I’m sure he’ll appreciate having them all looking bright and new again! But no matter how you decide to surprise your dad this father’s day, taking a trip down memory lane is sure to bring a smile to his face!
Great idea! I had my Dad’s favourite (retro) soccer jersey repaired and cleaned as part of his father’s day gift.
Oxi Clean is a wonderful product. I use it all the time. Great photo, by the way!
My brother is the father figure in my life as my dad has passed on. But he would love to have his vlothes refreshed, as well as his other items. Thanks for a good idea!
My dad is soooooooooooo hard to buy for, it’s insane!! I don’t know what to get him anymore…he has everything he needs. Now we do the odd toolbox kit or socks or something. I love the idea of restoring Dad’s favourite keepsake items. That’s very touching and something he will love, I’m sure!
great photo! cannot wait to spend fathers day with my dad!
I know what you mean about gift giving for Dads. As kids Dad told us ‘just get me some socks’. He had more than he could wear in his lifetime lol!
Such a beautiful picture!
I love this photo of you and your Dad
omg thats actually a really good idea!! my dad is the same way he doesn’t need anything or want anything. so i always struggle on what to do for him but there are so many things my dad has that could be cleaned up a bit so that they are good as new
That’s a really nice idea that I am sure he will love! I struggle with gifts for both of my parents for every occasion as they always also say that they have everything and don’t need anything!
