When I was a child, my half-brother was obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine and all his friends. He used to watch the show, read the books and collect all the engines and tracks. And my dad was always there to add new characters to his collection at Christmas and on his birthday, as well as sit down to play with Thomas and all his friends.
Thomas has been helping kids and dads connect for over 70 years now, so to show some appreciation for all that dads do for us, Thomas and Friends has created some great tips to help you show Dad just how much you care!
Take Time to Show Your Love.
Getting caught up in busy routines, you can often forget to show your appreciation for dad. Make sure you give him a hug every day and let him know that you love him. While this may seem small, it will go a long way in making him feel loved and appreciated.
Have Fun Together.
Try taking the initiative to set a fun activity up for him and the little ones. If he loves baseball, proactively ask to go to the park as a family and throw the ball together. Spending time together doing something he loves will create memories that will last for years to come.
Disconnect to Connect.
It can be easy to spend time together as a family plugged in watching a movie or catching up on your favourite TV shows. But, rather than spending all your time in front of a screen, try setting your littles ones up in a quiet space with dad and their favourite toys. They can have fun building the ultimate Thomas and Friends™ track and dad can share his memories of growing up with Thomas has his best friend!
To help Dad relax a bit while having some fun playtime too, Mattel is very generously offering one lucky Mommy Kat and Kids reader a Thomas & Friends Turbo Flip Thomas worth $50! To enter to win, just leave a blog comment about something you love about your or your child’s dad!
Dads do so much for their children that it’s easy for their own needs to get put aside. So take some time this November to take care of Dad! Not only is it good for him; it will give you a chance to bond with one another too!

I love that my children’s dad tries to spend as much time with them as possible. He travels a lot for work, and he always tries to take a red-eye flight so that he is flying when they are sleeping, so that his travel time doesn’t interrupt his family time. His schedule is especially hectic at the end of the year, so he is away most weeks for November and December, yet he tries his best to work all his site visits around things like the Christmas concert, even if it means flying several times in one week (back and forth), or on overnight flights etc. For example last night my husband worked all day, then coached our oldest daughter’s basketball practice after dinner, then headed straight to the airport to fly across the country to arrive at the crack of dawn to do a whole day on the road visiting sites. And he will work all day there Thursday too, then fly home overnight that night so that he can be home in time for her presentation at school on Friday afternoon, and coach her basketball game on Friday night. He really goes out of his way to arrange his schedule to have the least impact on the kids, and we all really appreciate it.
My dad was a genius, he could fix anything, for real. I loved him.
Something I loved about my dad is he was always there for us
My Dad has been gone for many years now. What I Loved most about him was his heart. He taught me to not judge a book by it’s cover. Get to know a persons heart. Don’t judge on race, religion, or social standing, just on a persons heart. I miss him so much and even more around the holidays. My husband is a lot like my father and has always taught our daughters this message too. Thank you for this wonderful giveaway and to remind us of our blessings
My husband is the best dad because he takes our daughter to do everything he does and teaches her how to do it. Yard work, chopping firewood. Everything.
I love my dad because he is smart and always ready for adventures!
he is nice
i love how my hubs is always there for our son
My son-in-law is a great father. He takes time each night to roll around on the floor with his son.
We went fishing together. That was special and the fish tasted great.
