Like many writers, I absolutely love to read. And when I start a book, I will devour it as energetically as I do a piece of cheesecake. In fact, devouring a book AND a piece of cheesecake is pretty close to paradise in my opinion.
So, when I heard that my friend Kerri had started a subscription box service especially for those that love a good book, I couldn’t wait to learn more. And when I found out that every box also came with a tasty treat and a hot drink to savour, I was in heaven.
The Sweet Reads Box is a reader’s dream come true, featuring a carefully curated novel, a specialty coffee or tea, a sweet treat and an item or two specially chosen to fit the theme of the book. I received the September box to review and I couldn’t wait to dig into everything inside.
The book? Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips. This story of how a mother and son’s trip to the zoo turns into a terrifying three-hour race for survival had me turning the pages as fast as I could. And of course, as the mother of three boys, it tugged at my heart with every word too.
To compliment my reading experience, the box also contained a package of A Mother’s Love tea from Tea-Gram, a very fitting elephant-shaped Big Brew tea infuser to brew up my cup of tea and a beautiful and delicious cookie from Edible Cakes.
The crowing jewel to the box was a beautiful charm necklace from Foxy Originals containing a very fitting quote by e.e. cummings: “You are my sun, my moon and all of my stars.” This sentiment is one that echoes the main character’s fierce love for her son, and is perfect for any mother.
My experience with the Sweet Reads Box was exactly what I hoped it would be. It let me sit back, relax and enjoy indulgent time to myself with all my favourite things. If you love a good book, this is one subscription box you’ll want to check out.
