Disney’s Pinocchio: The Signature Collection Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD-Giveaway

February 6, 2017 by Kathryn 81 Comments

I’m a sucker for re-watching the classic Disney movies I loved as a child but with two boys in the house, I’ve found that most of my favourite fairy tales about princesses don’t go over so well with them. So, I’m always excited when a Disney classic that has a more boy-friendly story is remastered and introduced to the children of today. That’s why I was ready for family movie night as soon as I heard that Disney’s Pinocchio: The Signature Collection had just been released on Blu-ray and DVD! Here’s a brief synopsis:

Now a part of the celebrated Walt Disney Signature Collection, the timeless story of Pinocchio inspires a new generation with its masterful animation, award-winning music, unforgettable characters and new behind-the-scenes bonus extras! With his faithful friend, Jiminy Cricket by his side, Pinocchio embarks on fantastic adventures that test his bravery, loyalty and honesty until he triumphs in his quest for his heart’s desire: to become a real boy.

Netflix Canada Beat Bugs is Fun for Beatles Fans Eight Days a Week-Giveaway

September 1, 2016 by Kathryn 88 Comments

When I first met my fiancé, one of the things that we immediately had in common was a passion for music. He played guitar. I played piano. He loved old blues music and I loved jazz standards. We both had an appreciation for classical music that developed even more over the years as we shared our favourite pieces and composers with one another. And, as lovers of music, we were both fond of many of the songs by the Beatles.

Sharing music with our boys is something that’s always been a part of our lives as well. But getting kids excited about some of the genres we love isn’t always easy. Jeremy started exposing the kids to classical pieces with the help of kid-friendly favourites such as Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev. I created CDs of some upbeat jazz and blues classics like Cookin’ with Grease by Sista Monica Parker. And Netflix stepped in to introduce our kids to classic Beatles hits with its fun-filled new cartoon Beat Bugs! [Read more…]

Teach Kids Differences Can Create the Best Friendships with #DinoTrux #StreamTeam

August 18, 2015 by Kathryn 15 Comments

One of the things that has always fascinated me about my oldest son is the way that he tends to find the kids in his class most in need of friendship and immediately form a bond with them. Zackary is very outgoing, so he’s never had much trouble making friends. But his very best friends are always the kids that aren’t as socially adept. From a child held back a year because of delayed speech development to a young boy in foster care that only attended Zackary’s school for half a year, watching my outgoing boy draw his peers out of their shells both impresses and intrigues me.

It’s just one example of a fact I’ve found to be true many times in life…opposites attract. And, more than that, opposites often compliment one another, especially among friends. The differences between us let us both learn from and be inspired by our peers so that all can grow as individuals. And that’s a lesson that the brand new Netflix original children’s series, DinoTrux, wants to illustrate to children. [Read more…]

Have Some Retro Fun with Your Kids with Netflix Throwback Cartoons #StreamTeam

June 15, 2015 by Kathryn 66 Comments

When I was a child, I was a little bit of a cartoon addict. Despite barely being able to crawl out from under the covers in time for school during the week, I would pop out of bed like a jack-in-the-box on Saturday morning to watch weekend cartoons. In fact, I once woke up so early that the morning kid’s shows hadn’t even started yet!

Now I have two boys that love cartoons as much as I once did, and while some of the shows they enjoy are ones that are brand new to me, others are throwbacks of cartoons that I once loved when I was their age. At first I’ll admit that it took some convincing for me to sit down and watch a revamped version of one of my childhood favourites. But once I saw a few episodes of some of the new shows, I was hooked!

My personal favourite throwback cartoon is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When I was young, the Turtles first appeared as a Saturday morning cartoon series. A few years later, the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was released. While I’m sure I had been to the movies before, TMNT was the first movie I remember seeing in the theatre. And I enjoyed it so much that I managed to convince my mom to let me go back to see it three more times! [Read more…]
