Disney’s Pinocchio: The Signature Collection Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

February 6, 2017 by Kathryn 81 Comments

I’m a sucker for re-watching the classic Disney movies I loved as a child but with two boys in the house, I’ve found that most of my favourite fairy tales about princesses don’t go over so well with them. So, I’m always excited when a Disney classic that has a more boy-friendly story is remastered and introduced to the children of today. That’s why I was ready for family movie night as soon as I heard that Disney’s Pinocchio: The Signature Collection had just been released on Blu-ray and DVD! Here’s a brief synopsis:

Now a part of the celebrated Walt Disney Signature Collection, the timeless story of Pinocchio inspires a new generation with its masterful animation, award-winning music, unforgettable characters and new behind-the-scenes bonus extras! With his faithful friend, Jiminy Cricket by his side, Pinocchio embarks on fantastic adventures that test his bravery, loyalty and honesty until he triumphs in his quest for his heart’s desire: to become a real boy.

Even though the adorable story of the puppet that wanted to be a real boy is one that’s been loved for generations, I knew my boys would be especially interested in watching the movie since we had read the original novel by Carlo Collodi a few months prior. Sure enough, both boys loved seeing the characters we had read about, though they did notice the Disney version of the story was noticeably less dark and violent than the book had been!

Personally, I enjoyed once again hearing the music and watching the story that had captivated me when I was younger, and the Blu-ray bonus extras meant that the fun wasn’t over even when the movie was! From a recreation of the iconic When You Wish Upon a Star by some of today’s top music influencers to a showcase of original artwork that didn’t make it into the finished movie, I loved delving into the movie a little deeper once we’d finished watching.

I’m so excited that I got the chance both to introduce my boys to the Disney version of this story about a mischievous little puppet and to add the movie to our collection of Disney classics! It’s a great family-friendly choice for both boys and girls that’s perfect for some family movie night fun. Find Disney’s Pinocchio: The Signature Collection Blu-ray combo pack in stores now and get ready to share the magic of this classic movie with your kids!
