Preparing Family for Winter Cold and Flus

November 25, 2016 by Kathryn 36 Comments

My mother always told me that I was a very healthy child overall but when I did get sick, I REALLY got sick. I remember some of my worst illnesses from my youth and my mom remembers even more, including an occasion when I had to be rushed to the hospital because I suddenly and inexplicably started convulsing on the floor. The doctors couldn’t explain the cause and it never happened again, but I can only imagine how terrifying that day must have been for my mom.

Now that I’m a parent myself, I’m happy to see that my own boys seem to have taken after me with regards to illnesses. Neither gets sick very often and sometimes we even manage to make it through an entire blustery Saskatchewan winter without so much as a cough or a sniffle. But when my boys do feel under the weather, I’m always ready to help them feel better as best I can!

Personally, I’ve found that having Children’s TYLENOL® and Children’s MOTRIN® in the house is one of the simplest ways to ensure I’m ready to help my boys feel better. Just last winter, Benjamin woke up in the middle of the night hallucinating with a high fever, though he’d gone to sleep feeling fine. He was almost in tears thinking that there were mean people in his room, and my heart hurt for my poor, confused boy. I gave him a dose of Children’s TYLENOL® to bring down the fever and soon his forehead was cool and he was sleeping peacefully once more. [Read more…]

Fight Off a Kid’s Cold Fast with These 4 Tips for Fall Health-Giveaway #ONatural

September 17, 2015 by Kathryn 88 Comments

Here in Saskatchewan, we went from glorious sunny autumn days to cold, rainy ones almost as soon as school started. If anyone was in any doubt as to whether or not it was fall yet, the weather has certainly settled that! And between the colder temperatures and the exposure to so many more kids (and germs) every day, my boys’ health is at the top of my mind.

Luckily, a few simple tips, tricks and techniques help me treat those inevitable sniffles quickly and efficiently when my boys show signs of getting sick. These are my top four methods for fighting off the first stages of a cold:

Tea and Honey

My boys are both huge fans of tea, and since a hot cup of green or herbal tea is full of antioxidants and also helps sooth a scratchy throat, it’s a great choice for fending off a cold. Add a bit of raw honey for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and I have a delicious drink that also helps my boys feel better fast. [Read more…]

Treehouse Gummies Vitamins Help Keep Busy Kids Healthy-Giveaway

September 11, 2015 by Kathryn 101 Comments

School is in full swing, the nights are getting cooler and before I can blink, I know the ground will be covered in snow. And with my boys suddenly being exposed to germs from hundreds of other kids combined with the lower immunity that cold weather brings, keeping Zackary and Benjamin healthy is a top priority. Wholesome food and exercise are a big help, but to ensure my boys get all the nutrients their bodies need, daily vitamins are a must. And that’s fine with them since they discovered new Treehouse Gummies Vitamins from Webber Naturals!

We’ve tried Treehouse Vitamins before and while my boys didn’t mind them, neither one got especially excited about eating them. That’s certainly changed now that new Treehouse Gummies Vitamins have entered the house! Now as soon as my boys finish supper, they’re both asking me if they can have their daily vitamins.

Rock the New School Year with 3 Tips for Healthy, Happy Kids

August 21, 2015 by Kathryn 22 Comments

I’ve always found that summer seems to fly by, but this year that’s been even more true than usual! Since we sold our house at the end of July, packing and moving took up the first half of the season. And now, before I could blink, it’s almost time to start school again!

With all the stress and disorganization of the last few months, I’m especially determined that my boys will be starting school feeling their best this year. These are the three ways that I make sure Zackary and Benjamin are happy, healthy and ready for learning come September!

1) Sticking to a Bedtime Routine

As hard as I try, I find that my boys’ usual bedtime routine tends to fall to pieces over the summer months. Vacations, outdoor fun and other summer activities result in bedtime being irregular at best and non-existent at worst. Two weeks before school starts, I make a move to change that with a set bedtime schedule. Starting at 7:30, I turn off all electronics, give the boys a dose of Orange Naturals Sleep Tight for Kids, have them brush their teeth and then read them a bedtime story. Starting this before summer ends ensures that they’ll be well rested when the first day of school arrives! [Read more…]
