south park complete 17 season blu-rayThe adult animated series South Park is one of those guilty pleasures that I’ve indulged in ever since my early twenties, though I have to make sure the boys aren’t around when I watch it now! And if you’re a fan as well, you’ll want to check out the recently released South Park: The Complete Seventeenth Season now available on Blu-ray and DVD. Here’s a brief synopsis of the disc:

All ten episodes from South Park’s epic 17th season are stuffed into this exclusive two-disc set. Join Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Princess Kenny as they infiltrate the NSA, bring peace to the Middle East, tame some strange, and fight in the greatest battle of their young, hot lives. Three Educational Family-Friendly Things To Do in North Dakota

June 25, 2014 by Kathryn 57 Comments

When travelling with kids, it’s tempting to just stick to the activities that are sure to be kid-friendly. But travel can be so much more enriching when kids are given the opportunity to explore beyond zoos and amusement parks!

That’s why I couldn’t wait to check out some of the historical sites in North Dakota with my boys. These tourist stops may not be traditional choices for travelling with children, but that doesn’t make them any less enjoyable!

Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center

The Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center was created to honour the point where these two mighty rivers meet. The center itself contains a large main exhibit area called Trails, Tracks, Rivers and Roads. The exhibit explores both the geography and geology of the area as well as the impact that humans had on the land upon their arrival.

I was fascinated to see some of the native animals of North Dakota from both past and present; I had never known there was such a thing as a paddlefish! And Zackary and Benjamin enjoyed the historic vehicles, which included a frontier army transport wagon and a 1904 Model A Cadillac. To make the exploration of the exhibit even more kid-friendly, a fun “treasure hunt” sheet was provided with riddles about the exhibits for kids to answer.

Finding Our Disney Side at the Disneyland Theme Park

January 20, 2014 by Kathryn 44 Comments

Visiting a Disney theme park was something that I always dreamed about as a child. I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit in my youth, but going to Disneyland was one adventure I never had the chance to experience. Last year that all changed when my boys and I flew off for a five-day trip to Disneyland to discover our Disney side for the first time.

What’s your Disney side? Well that’s simple. It’s the magic that fills you up and takes over your heart the second your family steps through the gates of a Disney theme park. As we prepared for our trip, I heard from friends about that moment their Disney side took over. For one father, it was seeing the way his little girls’ faces lit up when they saw the Mickey Mouse flower garden just inside the Disneyland entrance. For a mom friend, it was rushing off to take that first thrilling ride on Indiana Jones Adventure with her teenage son after arriving.

Anna’s Budget Tips-Five Free Ways to Make Your Kids Smile

November 1, 2012 by Kathryn 5 Comments

Bringing a smile to your kids’ faces doesn’t have to cost a penny and will likely leave you with a big grin that lasts all day as well. Here are a few free ways to surprise, delight, and completely crack your kids up!

playground1) Do Something Silly!

Mom and Dad could swap clothes before coming down to breakfast one morning. Try to keep a straight face as the little ones take in Mom in a suit and tie or Dad squeezed into one of Mom’s dresses. Bonus points to Dad if he puts on makeup and jewellery!

2) Dessert For Dinner

Shock your kids by serving ice cream sundaes, cookies and milk or some other sweet treat for dinner! Then have dinner for dessert, but best to keep it something simple that kids are likely to gobble up such as cereal, grilled cheese, or peanut butter and jelly. It can make for a crazy night, but the kids will love it…and who hasn’t wanted to skip straight to that cupcake from time to time? [Read more…]
