When it came to cleaning hard floors, a broom and a mop used to be the only option but times have really changed. With all the responsibilities that the modern mom has to juggle, who has time to clean a floor the old-fashioned way anymore? My favourite cleaning product company, Bissell, understands how pressed for time parents are today. That’s why they created the incredible new Steam & Sweep Hard Floor Cleaner. The machine sounded like an amazing easy and eco-friendly way to clean virtually any hard floor and I was thrilled when I was given a chance to test it out for myself.
So what makes the Steam & Sweep so special? Well to put it simply, pretty much everything. This all-in-one wonder is designed to replace your broom, mop and all those unhealthy cleaning products with just one sleek unit. My husband handled the assembly of the Steam & Sweep but like all the Bissell products I have tried in the past, the assembly was so simple. With two screws, the machine was fully assembled and ready to use. I simply had to fill up the reservoir tank with room-temperature water and I was ready to test out the Steam & Sweep for myself.
I plugged in the cleaner and flipped the power switch. The Steam & Sweep features two switches: one that controls the main power and one that controls the powerful floor vacuum that allows the Steam & Sweep to replace a broom as well as a mop. A convenient light on the front of the machine let me know when the steam feature was ready and I was happy to see that the unit only needed to be switched on for about a minute before it was ready to use. I turned on the vacuum switch as well and got to work testing out the Steam & Sweep on my floors.
Our kitchen and porch have gorgeous laminate flooring that my husband installed less than a year ago and I have been searching for the best way to keep it looking great ever since. My search is finally over; the Steam & Sweep cleaned the floors in a snap and left them looking like new. I simply glided the machine slowly over the floor while depressing the trigger on the handle. The vacuum picked up all the larger particles, the trigger activated the steam feature, which cleaned and sanitized the floors and the reusable microfibre pad locked the dirt away. With one machine and no chemicals, my floor was absolutely spotless!
After I was done cleaning, I simply pressed down on the dirt bin release lever and lifted up the unit. The dirt bin remained on the floor and I picked it up, tipped it into the garbage and placed the machine back over the bin until it snapped into place. Then I pulled off the used microfibre pad and tossed it into the laundry basket. The unit comes with two pads so that when one is in the laundry, I can wash my floor with the other. I loved the fact that I could lock away dirt and grime without creating any extra garbage; the reusable microfibre pads are such a great eco-friendly feature!
Like so many of Bissell’s products, the attention to detail on the Steam & Sweep Hard Floor Cleaner is unbelievable. The unit features a swivelling head to make cleaning hard-to-reach places no problem, it has a convenient carrying handle for easy transportation and it weighs less than ten pounds! While everything about this machine is so well thought out, two of the details of the Steam & Sweep really stood out for me. The first was the filter. Our hometown has very hard water, which can sometimes create problems ranging from clogged-up taps to ruined laundry. The Steam & Sweep dealt with our hard water with ease, however, thanks to a replaceable water filter that ensured there were no problems with streaks or spotting on our floor.
The other thing that impressed me about this machine was the microfibre pads themselves. The one thing that struck me before using the Steam & Sweep was that it really didn’t have any type of scrubbing feature for stubborn, dried-on spills or spots. But when I examined the microfibre pad more closely, I realized that Bissell was one step ahead of me. The pads feature alternating stripes of soft, absorbent microfibre and a stiffer scrubbing strip so that even the stickiest spills lifted with ease. With two small children in the house, it seems like there is always something being spilled on the kitchen floor, but that’s no problem for me thanks to the Steam & Sweep!
All in all, the Bissell Steam & Sweep Hard Floor Cleaner was everything that I had hoped it would be and more, and it has made cleaning my floors a chore I enjoy instead of one that I dread. If the floor is quite dirty, I usually sweep first quickly with a traditional broom and then use the vacuum feature as I wash the floor to pick up anything that was left behind. And if the floor isn’t too bad, I don’t even bother with a broom anymore. Instead the Steam & Sweep handles both jobs for me in a flash. There are so many more enjoyable things to do instead of spending hours sweeping and scrubbing floors. If you’ve been looking for a way to make your chores a little easier, you have to check out the Bissell Steam & Sweep Hard Floor Cleaner. Quick, convenient and eco-friendly…you may just find that cleaning your floors can be fun after all!
