There are few live shows more captivatingly beautiful than a Cirque du Soleil performance. And for those that just can’t get enough of the acrobatic displays and aerial feats of these shows, there is now Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away, which is now available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD. Here’s a brief synopsis:
Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (Avatar) and Andrew Adamson (Shrek) invite you on a spectacular movie adventure unlike anything you’ve seen before. Leap, soar, swim and dance with the legendary performers of Cirque du Soleil as they transport a young couple on a magical journey worlds away and beyond imagination.
The movie tells the story of Mia and her search for the Aerialist she met by chance as the two wander through a fantasy-like world. Containing performances from all seven of the Cirque du Soleil shows currently playing in Las Vegas, it is a must-see for any fan of Cirque du Soleil.
I was first introduced to Cirque du Soleil back in high school when the troupe still performed mainly in Quebec. Occasionally we would spend a free afternoon at school watching videos of the shows and marvelling at the talent of the performers. But it was when I first had the chance to see a live Cirque du Soleil performance last year that I was truly swept away by the magic.
Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away is a celebration of that magic and it was so much fun to watch. Anyone that is familiar with the troupe’s performances likely won’t be surprised to learn that while there is the storyline of two young lovers searching for each other, this is not a typical movie. The movie is not about the plot but is instead, as with a Cirque de Soleil show, a way of highlighting the daring and physically demanding performances.
Overall, I found the movie to be every bit as beautiful and captivating as a live Cirque de Soleil performance and it made me eagerly look forward to the day that I can see another one of these very special shows. If you’re a Cirque du Soleil fan, this is a DVD release that you will definitely want to check out!
