For the first time in years, I had quite a bit of trouble with my skin this winter. I’ve always had issues with breakouts but usually the worst months are the warms summer ones. So I was surprised to suddenly be dealing with acne during the coldest months of the year and then some scarring as a result when the breakouts healed.

I plugged in the device to charge and the fact that it was cordless and rechargeable was a feature I immediately appreciated. Our house is older and the bathroom actually doesn’t have an outlet so my previous corded unit was a bit of a pain to use since I had to set a mirror up on the kitchen table. I charged the device and chose the diamond tip I wanted for the first session.
The device comes with three removable diamond heads in fine, medium and coarse. The first time I used the device, I started with the fine tip. The process basically involves stretching the skin taut with one hand while moving the device over the skin with the other. The vacuum action pulls skin against the diamond head and stimulates circulation as the diamond head gently and deeply exfoliates the top layer of skin.
The other thing I liked about this unit was the three different speed settings so that I could get just the right amount of suction on the device to suit my skin. I recommend starting with the lowest setting and finest diamond head and then gradually increasing the speed and coarseness.
The device also comes with a bag of 50 one-time-use filters and one of the most important things to remember about the Riiviva Microderm device is that the filter must be changed after every use. I prefer to change the filter and clean the diamond head immediately after finishing using the device so that it’s ready to go right away the next time I want to use it.
I use the device about twice a week and have noticed a big improvement in my cheeks so far and a slight fading of some of the scars on my chin and forehead. The other important thing to remember about using a microdermabrasion device is that combining the treatment with a restorative skincare system will produce much better results. Olay Regenerist is one of the less expensive systems and makes a huge difference when combined with the exfoliation.

I really love the versatility of the Riiviva Microderm and the diamond heads give amazing results. Unlike the devices I’ve used previously, the heads can last for up to one year of normal use, which makes this a great affordable choice for at-home treatments since there’s no need to purchase costly replacement heads frequently.
