Three Tips for Making Tax Filing Easier

March is always synonymous with spring but in my self-employed life, it’s also synonymous with taxes! Organizing a year of income and expenses is always something that I’ve had a love/hate relationship with. On the one hand, I love seeing how successful my year has been. On the other hand, going through all that information is hard work and can occasionally take weeks!

That’s why keeping my information organized is a must for me, and luckily, Master Lock has been helping me do that for years now! If you’re getting ready to tackle your taxes, these tips may help you get the job done quicker…and keep you organized for next year too!

Whether you like taxes or loathe them, keeping all that important paperwork organized and easily accessible will be a load off your mind. And with all the work that taxes can entail, anything that makes the job easier is a good idea!

  1. I hate Tax time… But I have found that staying organized and sorting all my paperwork every month prevents me from losing my mind every April. Great tips!

  2. I do my moms, hubby’s, son and my income taxes and sometimes for friends too. I use the online free tax forms which I find making tax time so much easier. I am somewhat of an OCD when it comes to organization so I have everything separated and filed how it should be and kept as paperwork arrives and needs to be added. I find keeping receipts in an envelope or some sort of folder and out of sunlight keeps the receipts from fading. Also, it’s always good to use your debit card to make transactions or for those who have a credit card, use that as well. This way receipts can be numbered and matched to your bank/credit card statements as a back up as well.

  3. I purchased a filing cabnet. My hubby thinks everything is just thrown in the top drawer and that is filing. Thank You for the great tips. I will have to get him to read them. LOL silly me.

  4. The idea of digitizing and uploading receipts and documents to a secure site is interesting. Keeping the documents in a fire safe is also a great idea. It’s hard to choose which is better.
